Real Madrid are weighing up a £12million move for Chelsea star Alex.
Bayern Munich have earmarked the Brazil centre half as a potential signing after growing frustrated in their negotiations with Manchester City for Germany defender Jerome Boateng.
However, after making discreet enquiries over Alex’s availability, they have discovered Real are also keen.
Jose Mourinho signed the 29-year-old for Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in 2007 and is keen to link up with him again, with Ricardo Carvalho, 33, getting older and Ezequiel Garay having joined Benfica.
Zenit St Petersburg have already been rebuffed in an enquiry for Alex but a significant offer from Real may be difficult to turn down.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are close to finalising a deal for Genk goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Further talks are expected today and the 19-year-old’s father Thierry said: ‘I think Chelsea and Genk have reached an agreement.
‘On Tuesday we will come and talk about the transfer.’
Meanwhile, Tranmere’s Dale Jennings, 18, is completing his £1.7m move to Bayern Munich despite a late scare over his medical, which showed up a pelvic problem.
