Magpies still hoping to snare Swans full-back

Newcastle United's move for Swansea City left-back Neil Taylor is edging nearer to being resolved after being referred to a Premier League arbitration panel.

The Magpies thought their knock-down £1million offer was enough to trigger a release clause in the defender's contract, however, it was only enough to speak to the player.

Newcastle's offer for the 22-year-old has been rejected by newly-promoted Swansea, although the North East club still hopes it will be enough to secure the Wales international's services.

Taylor's agent concedes it has been a slow and drawn out affair and admits his client remains in a 'delicate position' until his future is finally resolved.

"It is slow progress at the moment but at the same time it needs to be resolved because the lad is in a very delicate position," agent Jamie Moralee told The Journal.

"At the moment clarification is being sought from the Premier League and we are waiting for that but Newcastle have made it clear that they won't go above £1million, which is not an offer that Swansea will accept."

Manchester City have confirmed to Sky Sports sources they have received a bid from Corinthians for Carlos Tevez.

Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian, as we reported earlier on Tuesday, has confirmed he has been in talks with the Brazilian club.

Now City have told Sky Sports sources that they have indeed received the offer which is around £35million.

City have not yet responded to Corinthians, as they consider whether to sell their talismanic, yet unhappy, captain.

The transfer deadline for permanent deals in Brazil is July 20th, so Corinthians are pushing for a quick response.

老說，我都覺35M是太貴，但對一直缺中場大腦的曼聯來說，他真是一個絕佳的收購對象，就算買貴左，都好過最終乜中中都無買得個吉
又從另一角度講，我唔比拚實力同作用(始終打落先知)，試問有幾多當打而又打過歐聯及世界盃決賽而又買得到的人?呢D經驗好重要
如果計呢方面，只打過聯賽盃決賽既拿斯尼確實被比下去了

Wenger - We have what we need at left back

Arsène Wenger has hinted that he might not invest in a replacement for Gael Clichy.

The French left back brought his eight-year spell with Arsenal to a close this month when he signed for Manchester City, leaving Wenger without one of his most senior players ahead of the 2011/12 season.

However, the Arsenal manager has a full England international waiting in the wings and he is happy with his back-up options too.

"The plan for left back is that we have Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore and Thomas Vermaelen can play there too. So we have what we need," said Wenger.

Argentine playmaker has no desire to play in the Premier League

Javier Pastore says he would prefer to stay in Italy rather than try his luck in the Premier League.

The Palermo playmaker features prominently on many summer shopping lists, with there reported to be plenty of English interest in his services.

Manchester City are among those believed to be leading the chase, as Roberto Mancini seeks to bring in extra creativity.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also said to be monitoring the Argentina international's situation.

The 22-year-old has no desire to take on a new challenge in the Premier League, though, with his two years at Palermo having helped him to settle in Italy.

Comfortable

Pastore, who is under contract until 2015, told Sky Italia: "If I left Palermo, I would like to remain in Italy. I have played in Italy for the last two years and feel very comfortable there.

"If I leave Palermo it will be to join a stronger team. I know Palermo president (Maurizio) Zamparini speaks to my agent. I am calm."

Pastore finished as Palermo's top scorer last season, with 11 goals to his name.

Speculation suggests that any potential suitor will need to part with around ?50million (£44m) in order to secure his signature.

Modric will go on pre-season tour
Croatia star will line up for Spurs in South Africa

Luka Modric will fly out to South Africa with Tottenham on Wednesday for their pre-season tour, despite Chelsea's on going pursuit of his services.

There had been suggestions the wantaway midfielder might not travel with his team-mates after Chelsea's latest £27million bid.

But Modric's representative Nikki Arthur Vuksan has confirmed his client's participation on the trip.

"Of course Luka will be going to South Africa," he said.

"He is a Tottenham player and he has a contract there."

Chelsea had a bid of £22million rejected earlier in the summer for the Croatia international, who is just 14-months into a six-year deal.

There had been fears the 25-year-old may not go on the tour as relations between him and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy looked increasingly strained.

Arrogant

Modric had accused Levy of being "arrogant" in a Croatian newspaper and feels he has reneged on a gentleman's agreement to let him leave if a bigger club came in with a suitable offer.

Having tasted UEFA Champions League football with Tottenham last season, the Chelsea target craves it again after Harry Redknapp's team failed to qualify for this term's competition.

However, Levy is adamant he wants to keep Modric, despite the former Dinamo Zagreb man describing his proposed move to Stamford Bridge as a "dream".

Modric will now join the rest of his team-mates on the tour where they will play in a tournament with the Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. They will play their first match on Saturday.

Hamburg have confirmed their interest in landing Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.

But their sporting director Frank Arnesen does not think they will land him.

AC Milan, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Sporting Lisbon and Newcastle are just some of the sides reportedly keen on taking the Danish international.

Bendtner was left off Arsenal's tour of Asia in order for him to hold talks over his future.

And now Hamburg have thrown their hat into the ring, with Arnesen feeling he could fill a midfield role for them.

"We need more creativity in our offensive. A midfielder with quality would be good for us," he told Hamburger Abendblatt.

"Bendtner would be a real dream, he is a very interesting player.

"He can also play as an attacking midfielder behind the attacker

"But it would almost amount to a small miracle for us to get him. There are two other clubs who have made an offer Nicklas and we are unfortunately not in that position."
