Villarreal's Juan Carlos Garrido rues missed chances against Barcelona
Villarreal coach Juan Carlos Garrido felt that his side paid the price for not taking their chances as they lost 1-0 at home to Barcelona...Villarreal coach Juan Carlos Garrido lamented the inability of his attacking players to capitalise on the clear-cut chances they created in their defeat to Barcelona.
Gerard Pique's second-half goal was enough to condemn Garrido's men to a home loss against the league leaders, who were without several key players such as Xavi, Carles Puyol and Pedro.
"We were good going forward in the first half. We tried to have a lot of possession and although we did not manage that, we still had three very good chances, of which at least one should have been a goal at this level," he told the post-match press conference.
"In the first-half, which was scoreless, Guiseppe (Rossi) had two very clear chances against Valdes and Cazorla had a third. Barcelona had a lot of the ball but did not create many opportunities."
Garrido refused to go into great detail on the controversial nature of Pique's winner, which involved a suspected handball but he did feel that his side were hard done by:
"When a team wins they are to be congratulated but I think that we deserved a draw."
With Valencia winning 4-2 in Getafe, Villarreal drop to fourth spot three points behind los Che, whom they face next weekend at the Mestalla.
