Official: Granada sign Benfica's Hassan Yebda on free transfer

Granada have announced they have completed the signing of Benfica midfielder Hassan Yebda on a free transfer.

The Algeria international joins Granada for nothing after terminating his contract with Benfica by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old arrived at Benfica in 2008, and though he played an important role in his first season at the Estadio da Luz, the signing of Javi Garcia saw him drop down the pecking order.

Yebda was subsequently loaned out to Portsmouth and Napoli, returning to Benfica at the end of last season.

But as one of the club's highest-paid players in Benfica's squad, he was strongly expected to leave, with Spain being touted as a likely destination in the last few days.

The African midfielder has become the fourth player to join Granada from Benfica, following in the footsteps of Carlos Martins, Julio Cesar and Jorge Ribeiro, with the first two being loan signings.

Emmanuel Adebayor is in London to complete his move from Manchester City to Tottenham.

The former Arsenal striker could undergo a medical as early as Wednesday afternoon and is expected to complete a season-long loan deal with Spurs despite reports that Italian giants Inter had attempted to borrow the player from City.

Adebayor was given the green light to head to White Hart Lane after Spurs agreed to pay a larger proportion of the £170,000-per-week salary he has been paid at City, where he has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Roberto Mancini.

Adebayor will have to bide his time as he attempts to invigorate a career that has stalled after a bright start at City because Spurs host Mancini’s side this Sunday in the Premier League but rules prevent loaned players from facing their parent clubs.

The move represents a chance for the 27-year-old to rebuild his reputation after a turbulent spell at City following his £25 million move from Spurs’ arch-rivals Arsenal two years ago.

Adebayor was loaned out to Real Madrid last season and relations soured further over the summer.

The Togolese forward hit out at City and threatened legal action after being told by a club secretary that he had been omitted from the 25-man squad that flew to America, but then he failed to turn up for pre-season training on time after being left out of the club’s pre-season tour.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is also hoping to finalise a move for Adebayor’s former Real Madrid team-mate, midfielder Lassana Diarra, before the weekend.

However, the deal for a player Redknapp managed at Portsmouth is being held up as the Spanish giants want to add a sell-on clause before agreeing to allow the combative French player to leave.

QPR want Jermaine Jenas on loan

NEIL WARNOCK has launched an ambitious bid to sign Jermaine Jenas on loan.

QPR boss Warnock is reviving a move for the Tottenham midfielder following Tony Fernandes' takeover at Loftus Road last week.

Rangers want the England inter-national, 28, for a season with a view to a £5million permanent deal if the club avoid relegation.

Jenas, capped 21 times, has not started a league game for Spurs since April 2.

While Warnock finally has some cash to spend, he is battling against the clock to use it.

He said: "It's all right having money and making offers but getting them to sign and move on with you is a different ball game.

"In 10 days, I've got to do 12 weeks' work. In an ideal world, we've always done it early.

"It wasn't possible and we've just got to try to grasp this opportunity and strengthen the squad to give us a chance up to Christmas."

Hoops manager Warnock is also lining up a £2m bid for Luke Young.

The full-back, 32, has started Aston Villa's first two Premier League games this season.

But boss Alex McLeish is open to offers if he can land Tottenham's Alan Hutton.

Warnock has failed in an attempt to bring former Portsmouth defender Nadir Belhadj, 29, back to Britain.

QPR, Swansea and Celtic had all shown interest but Qatari side Al Sadd do not want the Algerian to leave.

Inter Milan chasing Zarate - agent

Inter Milan want to replace outgoing striker Samuel Eto'o with Mauro Zarate, according to the Argentinian's agent.

Eto'o is expected to complete his record-breaking move to Anzhi Makhachkala this week, which will leave the Nerazzurri with a huge void in their frontline.

Diego Forlan has been heavily linked with a move to the San Siro, but Zarate's agent Giuseppe Bozzo says the 2010 European champions are also interested in his client.

Lazio have admitted they would be willing to sell Zarate at the right price, thought to be around ?20 million, though Bozzo said Inter have yet to make an official bid.

"Zarate is no ordinary player," Bozzo told Sport Italia. "He's an important one for president Claudio Lotito and the fans. Mauro is very attached to the Lazio shirt and he'll remain if no side demonstrates a concrete interest in his services.

"Now Inter have shown an interest in him and a decision will be taken calmly. The Inter offer was made to me and not Lotito. It's an option that could transform into a negotiation. However, it is obvious that the two clubs would have to sit down and talk about it."

A potential stumbling block could be Inter's reported desire for a loan arrangement, with Lazio determined to only accept a full sale.

Zarate, 24, scored nine Serie A goals last season to Eto'o's 21 strikes and the Lazio forward's scoring record has never been as impressive as the Cameroon superstar.
