Pedro must decide on Premier League switch, says Luis Enrique

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique insists Pedro is the one who has to decide if he wants to move to the Premier League.

Enrique has confirmed that the Catalan giants have received offers for the Spain forward, with reports in Spain claiming both Chelsea and Manchester United are in the hunt for Barca's fourth-choice striker.

Enrique is hopeful Pedro will stay, even if his ?30m release clause could leave the club powerless if the player wants out.

Speaking at a press conference following Barca's 2-1 victory in their pre-season opener against LA Galaxy, Enrique said: "I'm not going to say what I said, or what he told me.

"It's the decision of the player. When he says something, then I'll say something."

The treble winners secured a comfortable win thanks to goals from Luis Suarez and Sergi Roberto, with Manchester United up next on Saturday.

United close to landing Pedro: 24M? plus 6M in add-ons

Manchester United have set aside 24 million euros plus a further six in add-ons to bring Barcelona’s Pedro to Old Trafford for the new season.
The deal could be closed as early as this week and would see the Canary Islander join up with compatriots Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and who knows, maybe David de Gea and/or Sergio Ramos.

Pedro took part in Tuesday’s friendly against LA Galaxy – his first outing of the pre-season.
It may also be his last for Barça as it appears that United have convinced the player to join them.
Luis Enrique admitted before the pre-season that he understands Pedro’s frustration at his lack of playing time but added that he did not want the player to leave.
Recently-elected club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is due to join up with the squad on the US tour in the next few days and that could be the moment when Pedro announces where his loyalities lie.

Van Gaal also eyeing Llorente

Pedro and Ramos are not Mancheter United’s only Spanish interests. Fernando Llorente is also on Louis van Gaal’s wish list.
The striker is in the middle of the pre-season with Juventus but has a host of offers including Real Madrid, Valencia and according to some sources, Barcelona as well as bids from Tottenham and Monaco.

Pedro 'may have to leave Barcelona' says Sergio Busquets

Sergio Busquets admits that his friend Pedro could be forced to leave Barcelona in order to play first team football, with Manchester United reportedly interested in his services.

First team opportunities for the 27-year-old forward appear limited at the Nou Camp where Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez led the Catalan giants to the Champions League and La Liga titles last season.

Pedro has been linked with a move to Old Trafford following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao in recent weeks.

And Busquets said at a press conference in San Francisco: "I have spoken with Pedro.

"I think that as a team-mate and friend, I would like him to stay for a long time but I understand that he has doubts.

"He wants to play but there is a lot of competition. In our team we have the best players and it's very difficult.

"I hope he stays but the decision is his."

Pedro joined Barcelona's youth team as a 17-year-old and went on to win La Liga five times and the Champions League on three occasions.

Manchester United transfers: Barcelona admit they're powerless to prevent Pedro move

Barcelona accept they are powerless to stop Pedro from joining Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal is targeting the Spanish forward to bolster his attack following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.

United are prepared to activate the 27-year-old’s £22m release clause - and Barca manager Luis Enrique admits there is nothing he can do to block Pedro’s departure.

“If he wants to go, a club will have to meet his release clause,” said Enrique. “I have talked with Pedro to discuss his situation.

“I have told him how I think about it and he told me how he feels about it, but I obviously won’t reveal the exact content of the conversation we had.”

Pedro has become a fringe player at the Bernabeu with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, Enrique’s first choice forward line.

As a player who can operate on the wing or through the middle, his versatility appeals to Van Gaal.

The United manager has overhauled his squad this summer and intends to play with Wayne Rooney as his main striker.

Memphis Depay, a £25m signing from PSV Eindhoven, can also play as a more orthodox forward or in wide positions.

Even with the signing of Pedro, Van Gaal would still appear to be light in attack.

United explored the possibility of signing Tottenham’s Harry Kane and are long-term admirers of Gareth Bale.

This week they denied making a bid for Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller.

Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu says the club have received no offers for Spain forward Pedro.

The 27-year-old is reportedly a summer target for Manchester United, with manager Louis van Gaal supposedly keen to bolster his attacking options following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.

But Bartomeu has moved to dampen talk of an imminent move away from the Nou Camp for Pedro and insists an interested club will need to activate the frontman’s £22m buy-out clause.

"We have not received any offers for any player. I refer back to what head coach Luis Enrique said: If someone wants to sign our players then the release clause must be met. So far, no one has made an offer, so we are calm,” the 52-year-old said.

Pedro joined Barcelona in 2004 as a 17-year-old and progressed through the youth ranks into the first team. He has made 318 appearances scoring 98 times during an era of unprecedented success for the club, which has delivered five La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.  

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar were manager Luis Enrique’s first-choice front line last season, however, and Pedro’s involvement in the first-team in the upcoming campaign would appear limited.

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Barcelona winger Pedro, according to the Daily Mirror.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward flew back to the US for talks with Pedro’s agent before the club’s friendly with Barcelona – which the premier League club won 3-1.

Woodward has returned to the UK and it is thought that United will now meet the Spanish international’s £22m release clause to seal a deal.

BARCA TO DELAY PEDRO SALE

Barcelona will look to delay the sale of Pedro to Manchester United until after their involvement in next month’s UEFA Super Cup, according to Marca.

It looks increasingly likely that the Spain forward will move to United, especially as the Premier League side are about to cash in on Argentina winger Angel Di Maria. Marca reports that United and Barca have all but agreed a fee, with Pedro likely to move for between ?30m and ?32m.

With the start of the Premier League season and their involvement in Champions League qualifiers on the horizon, United want to finalise the deal as soon as possible, but Barca want to retain his services until after they have taken on fellow La Liga outfit Sevilla in the UEFA Cup in Tblisi on August 11.

Barca are mindful that Lionel Messi and Neymar may not be in peak physical condition by the time they face Sevilla and, as such, they want Pedro to be available for the European fixture.
