Owen eyes end to transfer saga
Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves says there could be developments this week on his potential move to Old Trafford.
United have had bids for the England international turned down in the past, but Bayern's club president Franz Beckenbauer has suggested a deal, reportedly worth around £17million, is not far off completion.
The 26-year-old energetic midfielder, who has spent much of this season recovering from a broken leg, is keen for a conclusion to the speculation.
"It's been one of the longest transfer sagas," he told BBC's Inside Sport programme. "I'm sure this week we'll hear some new information."
Beckenbauer intimated earlier this week that a deal has practically been done between the two clubs, although United have so far made no official comment on the matter.
The German football legend said this week: "Owen is leaving. It's a good match and it's also a good deal financially."
Bayern's coach Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has already pledged to make "brutal and ruthless" changes to his team ahead of next season, and is seemingly already planning for life without the Englishman.
He told his club's website: "A player like Owen Hargreaves would have looked good in our team next year. In the defensive midfield position Owen is one of the best in the world - it's a big sporting loss for us."
