Jose Mourinho expects to welcome Cesc Fabregas back for the midweek visit by Everton when the quest for the league title continues. The Spain international came off during the cup win over Liverpool and missed the matches against Manchester City and Aston Villa. The news that the player is ready to return is reported in the latest Blues News headlines from Chelsea TV which can be viewed above.
Speaking on the subject following the weekend win,
Mourinho said: ‘I think he [Fabregas] plays Wednesday because on Saturday it was a decision to protect him.‘We didn’t want to risk two players at the same time.
We risked with Willian and to start two players with a risk is a big gamble and we gambled with only one.’Ramires has been the player selected in central midfield alongside Nemanja Matic for the last two and a half games following his own recovery to full fitness and sharpness.
‘The best Ramires is back and the best Ramires played against Liverpool, Man City and Aston Villa,’ praised Mourinho.
‘He is a different profile of player [compared with Fabregas] but he is a fantastic player for us.’
Gary Cahill confirmed to Chelsea TV after Saturday’s game that his knee will be okay despite a painful knock following a collision with John Mikel Obi. Speaking generally on the performance the defender said:
‘Whenever we go to Villa it seems to be tough and they make it hard but we got a fantastic result away from home and we keep on going to the next game.
‘The first half we were in control of the game, we got the goal, but as soon as Villa got their goal it raised the crowd, it raised the belief and all of a sudden it turns into a tough game. But it was a fantastic goal by Iva and I thought we deserved the win overall.’
Mourinho also commented on Branislav Ivanovic’s winner.
‘Every striker in the world would be proud to score that magnificent goal,’ the manager said.
‘For a right-back whose left foot is not his best one it is an amazing goal, especially when it is the winning goal. If you score that goal and it is 3-0 or 4-0 it is a different thing.
‘I am very happy because he is a great guy and what he is doing for us is unbelievable with the foot injury he had against Liverpool when he played the rest of the game, and he played against Man City and Aston Villa.
‘He is one of the best signings. He came immediately after I left Chelsea and after that he made a fantastic contribution for this club.’
