Leicester City striker David Nugent is a major doubt to be fit to face his former club Burnley next Saturday after picking up a calf injury in the warm up before the weekend's 2-0 victory over Swansea.Nugent, who has experienced problems with his calf in the past, felt the injury just 15 minutes before kick-off.
He was set to undergo a scan yesterday to determine the severity of the injury.
Nugent has been a quick healer from previous calf strains and will be determined to face the Clarets, for whom he played in the Premier League in the 2009-10 season and against whom he has a good goalscoring record, with five goals in his last six appearances against them for City.
Defender Marcin Wasilewski also had to be withdrawn at half-time on Saturday after picking up a knock in training on Friday."With Nuge it is a calf problem and until we get a scan on it, we don't know how long he will be out," said Pearson."Generally speaking when he has had this problem before, he is a quick healer but we will have to wait for the results.
"Marcin got a bit of a knock in training on Friday. When we went to a back four in the latter part of the first half, there is an awful lot more running involved in a full-back situation than as a centre-back in a three.
"That is why you have sub. You utilise what you have on the bench. Ritchie De Laet has an abundance of pace, so it was a no-brainer."Leonardo Ulloa stepped in for Nugent and scored the first goal in City's crucial 2-0 victory, and Pearson praised him for his ability to adapt.
"Leo Ulloa played a positive role coming in for David Nugent.
"These are setbacks you have to deal with but ultimately the performance warranted the result, I thought."
City first-team assistant coach and striker mentor Kevin Phillips received the prestigious Sir Tom Finney Award at last night's 10th annual Football League Awards. Phillips was recognised for an outstanding contribution to the Football League during his 20-year career, which included five promotions with five different clubs.
