Bernd Schuster was unhappy that Real Madrid again failed to book their place in the next round of the Champions League and stated that beating Lazio was now crucial.Los Merengues were beaten in a five-goal thriller by Werder Bremen on Wednesday evening and the coach was evidently frustrated that his side have yet to book their place in the next round.
Robinho and Ruud van Nistelrooy scored for the visitors, but goals from Markus Rosenberg, Boubacar Sanogo and Aaron Hunt saw the Bundesliga side clinch all three points in the Weserstadion.
"Now our situation is a bit more complicated than we would have liked. We have had two games to earn the points that we need and we have not been able to do it," Schuster said.
"We have to now do it at home and that is an advantage that we have to take."It is not only important that we qualify, but also that we finish first in the group, because when you see the other groups it is crucial."
Schuster expected Werder to still offer a threat even without Diego in their side and he was not surprised by the strength and determination that the home team showed.
"Werder Bremen are a team that, despite having suffered this season, never give up," he continued.
"They are a side that have found a taken advantage of all the little things we gave them despite the fact that they had players missing.
"That is something that is typical when you play against German teams. Winning against a German team is always difficult.
Madrid need to draw their last match of the group stage at home to Lazio to qualify for the first knockout phase of the competition.
