Martins injury not serious - back within 2 weeks

Glenn Roeder has revealed that new £10m signing Obafemi Martins has not suffered a bad injury after all, with a suspected "very bad dead leg" being the cause of his exit from today's disappointing 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Roeder and everyone connected with the club thought the worst when Martins went down badly and required a stretcher to carry him off, with the knee and thigh area seemingly the problem.
With a serious knee injury or a torn hamstring looking like possibilities at the time, it will be a relief to hear that Martins only suffered a "very bad" dead leg.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Roeder said that Martins should be OK for the next game, at home to Fulham on September 9th.
Earlier, Shola Ameobi was ruled out after failing to overcome a hip problem, meaning the new signing had to partner James Milner in attack, and in the second half Albert Luque after a Roeder reshuffle.

GLENN ROEDER is looking to sign three players in three days for Newcastle. The United boss - honest enough to admit that his team's display in a 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa yesterday was simply not good enough - is determined to strengthen again.
Good news at least came with the revelation that £10 million new boy Obafemi Martins - stretchered off in the second half at Villa Park - has merely suffered a dead leg.
And Roeder, who has not ruled out a loan deal on another striker, insists there will be more positive bulletins on the transfer market for the Toon Army ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.
He said: "With Jean-Alain Boumsong having left the club, that's an area of the team that I hope we can strengthen before Thursday," he said. "We're working on a couple of options as we speak.
"We still need to strengthen the squad a bit more before the window closes and, if I can get what I want, I will be happy to attack the rest of the season with this squad.
"If I can get the three players I want, I will take my chances and be very pleased. Until the ink dries on a contract, you never know, but I think we are in pole position with them."
Meanwhile, a striker partner for Martins is also on the shopping list, with doubts remaining over Shola Ameobi's long-term hip problem.
"I can see he needs a special striker to play alongside him, someone with a physical presence to help him," said Roeder.
"We didn't create opportunities for him and he didn't get the chance to open up and really show his pace.
"Having seen him on the training ground, I think he is the quickest player I have ever worked with."
Wayne Bridge, Robert Huth and Thomas Gravesen remain on the shopping list - but the latter is also attracting strong interest from four other clubs, including Celtic.
As for Martins' injury, Roeder insists it will not prevent him lining up for the Magpies in their next Premiership match, at home to Fulham on September 9.
"Oba has suffered a dead leg," said the United boss.
"It's quite a heavy dead leg, it has bled into the muscle, he took a nasty smack on it. I was very concerned when the stretcher came on, I thought it might be a really nasty injury.
"Thankfully it's not and I expect him to be fit for the game against Fulham. It's a let-off."

Magpies fail with Viduka bid
Skysports.com understand that Middlesbrough have rejected an approach from rivals Newcastle United for Mark Viduka.
The Magpies and Boro have been battling throughout the transfer window, with The Teessiders looking likely to come out on top with both Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth set to sign on with Middlesbrough.
Newcastle are believed to have made contact with their North East neighbours on Wednesday about the prospect of taking Viduka.
However, it is understood that Boro refused to entertain the idea - even though it is being suggested that James Milner was offered as part of the deal.
Boro no doubt would have seriously entertained the prospect of taking on Milner with the right-hand side of their midfield an area of concern - however, the prospect of losing Viduka looks to have been too unappealing to consider the prospect.
With 24 hours remaining before the transfer deadline closes, Newcastle could very well come back to Boro with a revised bid - but again it seems a tough ask for them to land the Australian.
Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder is looking to add to his squad before the transfer window closes with a defender and another striker known to be high on his list of desired targets.
While at The Riverside, Boro chief Gareth Southgate looks to be closing on at least three news faces with Jason Euell, Woodgate and Huth all undergoing medicals at the club's Rockcliffe Park training headquarters.
