Krul: 'Words Of Wisdom From The Boss'

Tim Krul revealed how a stern half-time team talk from manager Alan Pardew inspired Newcastle's fighting spirit in their 2-2 with Spurs on Sunday.
Trailing at the break to Rafael Van Der Vaart's penalty, Demba Ba levelled immediately after the restart, only for substitute Jermain Defoe to fire Tottenham back in front at St. James' Park.
But Shola Ameobi came off the bench to net his first goal of the season with four minutes remaining, and earn the Magpies a share of the spoils.
It was the first time this term that goalkeeper Krul has been beaten twice, but the Dutch international explained that Pardew used half-time to instil some self-belief back in the United dressing room.
"The manager just said to us at half-time 'show what you are about'. He told us the game was there to be won but we had to start believing it," Krul told nufc.co.uk.
"He wanted us scoring early in the second half and that happened perfectly. He really fired us up at half-time. We were going downhill in the second half and he wanted us to show how good we are.
"We showed it on the pitch, played some great football today and we can be really pleased with our performance. We are more than pleased with a point."
Pre-match, the fixture against Tottenham was billed as Newcastle's biggest test of the season. But Pardew's side kept their unbeaten start to the campaign in tact, and Krul believes a lot of that is down to the strength in depth at the club.
"It was a great draw. Tottenham have got a great squad of great players and we showed again today how good a team we are," said the keeper.
"We've got players on the bench who can change games. That's been different before. Now, we can bring guys like Ben Arfa and Shola on, and even Santon getting his first minutes. There were also a few other very good players on the bench. That is great.
"We came through the test very well. It just shows you we don't have to be scared. I've said it before and it just proves that we don't have to be scared of anybody."
