By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter
"A slippery game" is how Alan Pardew describes Saturday's match against struggling Wigan - but the United boss is convinced his side can avoid any banana skins as long as they approach the fixture in the same way that they have prepared all season long.
Newcastle remain unbeaten in all competitions this season while the Latics have lost every one of their last six outings, but there is no room for complacency under Pardew's watch.
He insists it would be a "crime" if the Magpies let their high standards slip - and has warned that Roberto Martinez's team will be ready to take advantage if they do.
"The discipline, the way we've gone about it and the way we've played our football is a good advertisment for Newcastle and we need to keep that up," he said.
"We need to keep those levels of performance and discipline that we've set on Saturday because we've got what is a potentially slippery game.
"Wigan are on a tough run at the minute and they'll be really coming to us to prove a point so we have to be on our guard.
"I think if we don't have the same application and we don't put the same work-rate in, we'll be kicking ourselves after because that means we haven't paid them the respect that we paid Tottenham and that would be a crime.
"Wigan have got some outstanding players that could turn up and have 'a day', like any team, any we need to be able to cope with that.
"So I expect Wigan - and we should expect Wigan - to play above themselves. But we should still be able to beat them.
"We've had a conversation about it already and I think there'll be further conversations before the game starts to make sure that when that ball is kicked off we don't let our fans down, who have been absolutely magnificent for us."
