Two weeks ago Wayne Rooney was the snarling, unacceptable face of football when he swore twice into a television camera and was banned for two games, including the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on Saturday.
But when five-year-old Jack Marshall, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, visited Manchester United's training ground he only had eyes for one player and said: 'I'd like to kiss you, Wayne. I think you are the best footballer in the world.'
The trip had been organised by Rio Ferdinand, who also spent time with Jack and his family. Jack's mum, Tracey, and his father, Craig, published the pictures on their Twitter account.
