Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher hopes he can recover from his knee injury to help the Red Devils' push for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League double this term.
The influential midfielder sustained his injury in last month's friendly between Scotland and Croatia, leading to criticism from Sir Alex Ferguson, who branded friendlies as a waste of time.
But Fletcher is now at the last stages of his rehabilitation and is hopeful he can come back into the squad at this vital stage of the season.
He told Sky Sports News: "It was a disappointing time to get injured but you can't pick and choose these things, you just have to get on with it.
Last stages
"But rehab has gone well, just at the last stages now of actually passing and kicking the ball where it catches on my medial ligament, just trying to get through that until it is bearable and hopefully I'm not too far away from a return."
Asked if he was hopeful of still making a few appearances this term, he added: "Yes definitely, hopefully that's the case but who knows anything can happen but the way things are going just now it looks a real possibility.
"But it will be a tough job getting back in the team because they are performing really well but just to be back there and be part of it and add an extra number because there is a lot of games coming up."
