Barcelona reject Napoli bid for Javier Mascherano

Barcelona has officially rejected a move from Italian clubNapoli for Argentine defender Javier Mascherano, who the manager pegs asan important player in the current squad.

Napoli manager Rafa Benitez has undergone a spending spree thissummer but is still looking to strengthen the squad’s defense and thusturned to Barcelona man Javier Mascherano.

It was reported by Gazetto dello Sport that the Italian club had made a formal bid for the Argentine defender but it the exactly fee proposed is not known.

However, according to Italian reports Barcelona has officiallyrejected the offer for Mascherano who manager Tata Martino sees as avery important player in the Catalan squad.

With Barcelona yet to sign a defender in the current transfer windowit is believed that Mascherano will compete for a starting role at theCatalan club.
In response to having their bid rejected, it is confirmed that Napolihas now ended negotiations for Mascherano and turned their attention toLyon’s Maxime Gonalons.
