Champions League: Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp handed one-match European ban





Borussia Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp has been handed a one-match European touchline ban by UEFA following his outburst
during the club's 2-1 Champions League defeat against Napoli.

The 46-year-old will now have to watch next Tuesday's Group F clash against French runners-up Marseille at Signal Iduna Park from the stands.
Klopp received the ban after verbally abusing the fourth official, who refused to allow defender Neven Subotic to return to play during their fiery encounter
against joint Serie A leaders Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo on September 18.
He was subsequently sent to the stands by the match referee and later apologised for his outburst.

UEFA's disciplinary commission will meet on October 2 to decide whether Klopp will be suspended for a further match or handed a fine.
"I made myself look like a monkey out there and that's not on," he told ZDF television following the match.
"I overstepped the mark and it was really pathetic of me.
"I've already apologised to the team, the referee and the fourth official. I got it wrong.
"I have to accept the blame for this red card, it was just stupid of me."

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has been handed a one match ban by European football's governing body UEFA
following an outburst at the fourth official during the 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat at Napoli.

The 46-year-old manager will have to watch next Tuesday's home European group tie to French runners-up Marseille from the stands next Tuesday.
UEFA's disciplinary commission will meet on 2 October to decide whether Klopp will be suspended a further match or handed a fine.

Klopp, who led Dortmund to the Champions League final last season where they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by treble-winning Bayern Munich,
received the penalty after verbally abusing the fourth official during their fixture against joint Serie A leaders Napoli on 18 September.
He was subsequently sent to the stands by the match referee and later apologised.

The decision is a further blow for Klopp - who led the team to the German Bundeslifa and DFB-Pokal double in 2012 - as he will also have to replace his suspended first-choice 'keeper Roman Weidenfeller, who was shown a straight red card in Italy for handball outside the box.

Klopp will be missing from the touchline when last year's finalists take on the Gunners at the Emirates on October 22 after being handed an extended suspension by UEFA.
The German coach was sent to the stands for verbally abusing the fourth official in the 2-1 defeat by Napoli last month.
Klopp blew his top when Napoli scored after the fourth official refused to allow defender Neven Subotic back onto the pitch quickly following treatment for an injury.

The 46-year-old served a one-match ban during the 3-0 victory over Marseille on Tuesday but UEFA's disciplinary committee have now doubled the suspension
as part of a drive to encourage greater respect for match officials."This decision can be appealed. Borussia Dortmund are currently considering whether to go down that route,"
said the club, who have three days to lodge any protest.
Klopp, whose team have three points in Group F, the same as Napoli, with Arsenal top on six, has repeatedly apologised for his behaviour.
