Diego Costa a major doubt for Champions League final The striker has suffered a grade one hamstring injury and is unlikely to be fit for Saturday's clash with Real Madrid in Lisbon
Atletico Madrid have revealed that Diego Costa is a major doubt for the Champions League final due to a hamstring injury. The Spain international was susbtituted early on during his side's 1-1 draw with Barcelona last Saturday and was reduced to tears whilst receiving treatment on the sidelines.
The club have since confirmed he has suffered a grade one hamstring injury, throwing his chances of playing against Real Madrid into serious doubt,
whilst also raising concerns over his availability for the World Cup starting next month.
"Diego Costa has suffered a grade one muscular injury to the femoral bicep of the back of his right leg," the club tweeted through their official account,
before confirming they are waiting for definitive news on the length of time needed for the striker's recovery.
Costa - who is widely expected to join Chelsea in a ?42.5 million deal this summer -
has scored 36 goals in all competitions as Atletico soared to an historic La Liga title as well as a place in the Champions League final.
The Brazil-born star was struggling with a hamstring problem prior to Saturday's Liga decider at Camp Nou,
but head coach Diego Simeone had insisted the player was ready to play following training during the week.

Champions League: Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema should make final Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema should be fit for next Saturday's Champions League final against Atletico Madrid. Ronaldo, Real's top scorer this season, apparently hurt himself in the warm-up before Saturday's 3-1 La Liga victory over Espanyol at the Bernabeu and was replaced at the last minute by Isco.
However, Ancelotti said it was nothing to be concerned about and the Portugal captain,
who has been troubled by a thigh injury in recent weeks,
had merely been rested as a precaution. Benzema limped out of the match with just over 20 minutes remaining with what Ancelotti described as a twinge in his adductor muscle.
"Cristiano wasn't comfortable in the warm-up and we decided not to take any risks," said the Italian.
"We are not worried because we think he can play the Champions League final. "Benzema had a twinge in the adductor and he shouldn't have any problem in playing the final."
Ancelotti added that centre-back Pepe, who has been suffering with a calf problem, is recovering well and the club are confident he will also play against Atletico.
Ronaldo's absence from the Espanyol game meant he was unable to add to his tally of 31 league goals this season
and as a result he will share the European Golden Boot with Liverpool's Luis Suarez who netted 31 times for the Reds in the Premier League.
