Cordoba sign Japanese striker Mike Havenaarby Heath Chesters | Posted on Monday, July 21st, 2014
Japanese international Mike Havenaar has signed a two-year contract with newly promoted Cordoba, with an option of a third, after leaving Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem. Mike Havenaar might not sound a very Japanese name,
but that’s because his parents moved from the Netherlands to Japan in the mid 1980′s and he was born there shortly afterwards.
A professional sporting family, his father was a goalkeeper and is now a coach in the Asian country, whilst his mother was a national champion in the heptathlon.
Having started his own professional career with Yokohama F. Marinos, Mike Havenaar also had spells with Avispa Fukuoka, Sagan Tosu and Ventfortet Kofu,
before opting for his first move to Europe, back in the country of his parents and with Vitesse Arnhem.
For the last three seasons with Vitesse Arnhem, Havenaar has made 78 appearances and scored 26 goals, but has now opted to try his fortune in La Liga.
Cordoba officially announced on Monday evening, that
the 27-year-old has signed a two-year contract, but has an option of an additional third. A full international with Japan, Havenaar has 17 caps and has scored 4 goals, although he didn’t make the squad for the World Cup finals.
