Transfer news: Real Madrid set to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro



Real Madrid have won the race to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro, according to reports in Spanish newspaper Marca.

The newspaper suggests that Real have reached an agreement with Cruzeiro to sign the 21-year-old for a reported ?15 million.

The European champions announced on Wednesday that they had reached an agreement with Stromsgodset to sign 16-year-old Norwegian forward Martin Odegaard, and Silva is likely to be their second signing of the transfer window.

He is expected to sign a six-and-a-half year contract with Carlo Ancelotti's team, ahead of an unveiling at the Bernabeu next week

The midfielder has been linked with the club since August, and is seen as a replacement for Xabi Alonso - who moved to Bayern Munich last summer.

A host of Premier League sides are said to have watched the player during the last few months, but he recently revealed he was keen on a move to the Spanish capital.

It looks as though Lucas Silva’s move to Real Madrid is all but finalised, with the signing expected to be announced sometime today.

The vice president of Cruzeiro, Marcio Rodrigues, told ESPN Brazil: “Lucas Silva's transfer deal is official...The player has decided it's time for him to leave.”

Spanish paper AS report the 21-year-old midfielder will arrive in Madrid on Sunday and the deal will cost the European champions around ?13m.

Real Madrid C. F. and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Lucas Silva, who will be tied to the club until 30 June 2020.

The player will be unveiled on Monday 26 January at 1pm CET in the Santiago Bernabéu presidential box, after undergoing the relevant medical examination.

Subsequently, Lucas Silva will step on to the Santiago Bernabéu pitch for the first time in the Real Madrid shirt and will speak to the media in the press room.
