Jonathan Woodgate is contemplating retirement after manager Aitor Karanka confirmed he will not play for Middlesbrough this season .Talks are underway about a possible coaching role for the 35-year-old who has endured an injury-ravaged career and played only nine games last season.Karanka said: 'I was speaking with him and the chairman is speaking with him. The defender has been capped eight times by England, but never fulfilled his potential due to significant and repeated injury problems.
He began his career with Leeds before joining Newcastle.
A £13.4m move to Real Madrid followed but his career in Spain began in disastrous fashion, as he scored an own goal and was later sent off.
He made just 14 appearances for Madrid before signing for Boro in 2007, only to move on again to Tottenham and then Stoke, before finally choosing a second spell on Teesside in 2012.
Despite injuries, he has clocked up 387 appearances since his professional debut in October 1998.
