Roma are close to agreeing a deal for Tottenham defender Federico Fazio, according to Sky sources. The Italian club want the former Sevilla centre-half on loan with a view to a permanent deal worth around £3.5m.
Fazio, who led Sevilla to Europa League glory before moving to White Hart Lane in August 2014, did not make a single Premier League appearance for Spurs last season and saw a move to West Brom collapse last August. Spurs currently have Belgium internationals Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as their first-choice centre-back pairing, with Kevin Wimmer as back-up, and manager Mauricio Pochettino said last week he didn't expect to sign another centre-half because of the quality young options at his disposal from the academy such as Cameron Carter-Vickers and Anton Walkes.
Fazio, 29, moved back to Sevilla on loan in January, but made only four league appearances in Spain and will now hope to win regular first-team football in the Italian capital.
