Inter Milan are hopeful that their move for Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi is edging closer after the defender was left out of the Gunners’ squad for the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Calciomercato.com has confirmed that the player has agreed to join Inter on a ?3.5 million-a-year deal but the Serie A outfit have yet to reach an agreement with the Premier League side.

Inter would be open to sign the player on loan with a ?25 million option to buy, Arsenal want the option to buy to be mandatory and have yet to rubber-stamp Mustafi’s departure.

Shkodran Mustafi is ready to move to Italy as Arsenal continue negotiations with Inter Milan.

The Gunners want in excess of £20million for the German centre-half who was dropped to the bench for the 4-0 drubbing at Liverpool on Sunday.

Mustafi played 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat at Stoke but was an unused substitute at Anfield as Arsene Wenger's side were mauled on Merseyside.

He has been linked with a move away from the Emirates over the summer after making 26 appearances in his first season in north London last term.

Mustafi, 25, arrived for £35million from Valencia 12 months ago.

He has 19 senior caps for Germany.

INTER MAKE NEW MUSTAFI BID

Inter Milan have made a new offer to Arsenal for German centre back Shkodran Mustafi, according to Sky in Italy.

Inter are offering a £4.6m loan fee with an option to buy for £23m which could become an obligation to buy.

The Italian side would have to buy Mustafi if he played in 50 per cent of their games this season.

It is understood Arsenal still expect him to stay.

Arsenal are interested in Evans because they are still trying to offload Shkodran Mustafi - a £34m signing last summer - with Inter Milan keen on a loan deal. But Arsenal would want a permanent switch or at least with an option and close to their money back.

However, Mustafi is now ready to quit as he knows Arsenal want to sell and that message is clear.

Inter were offering a loan deal with a view to a permanent switch but were not able to reach the sort of figures Arsenal were demanding.

Arsenal signed Mustafi for £34m last summer and would have wanted close to that amount in the total package.

But Inter were well short and, unless they come back with drastically improved figures, that avenue now looks closed.
