Ajax aim to tie up deal for Manchester United's Daley Blind before Monday but are still baulking at £15m price tag- Ajax director Edwin van der Sar trying to negotiate lower price for Daley Blind
- Manchester United are holding firm at £15m despite wanting him off the books
- Blind has a year remaining on his contract and is not needed by Jose Mourinho
Ajax are trying to push through a deal for Manchester United's Daley Blind before the Old Trafford club depart for their USA tour on Monday. United want £15m for the 28-year-old Holland international despite the fact he has one year left on contract, however, Ajax director Edwin van der Sar has been in talks to try and get that figure drastically reduced.
The former goalkeeper has the significant advantage of being a legendary figure at Old Trafford following a six-year spell in which he won four Premier League titles, one Champions League and one League Cup. Blind was brought to Manchester United four years ago by Louis van Gaal, who had also selected him in his World Cup squad earlier that summer. At that time, Blind was designated as a midfielder, but has since moved back into defence. The versatile Dutchman, who won four Eredivisie titles with Ajax between 2011 and 2014, has seen his stock dwindle over the last season after losing the faith of Jose Mourinho.
He made just seven Premier League appearances last season and 10 more across other competitions. That, combined with his 12-month contract, will be reason enough for Ajax to demand a significantly smaller transfer fee.
