Joan Laporta Confirms Barcelona Are On The Brink Of Signing Valencia's David Villa For ?42m
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced that Barcelona are close to finalising a deal to bring Valencia striker David Villa to the Camp Nou for ?42 million, Goal.com Spain understands.
Sunday's La Liga winners are acting quickly to ensure next seasons squad is an improvement upon their already high achieving side and Laporta believes the signing of Villa on a four year contract is a movement toward doing so.
"We have the basic elements of the agreement in place and are talking to find a solution. We have not become fixated on a date but we hope to be done before the World Cup," Laporta told Marca early on Tuesday.
