Wigan Athletic have signed Oman international goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi on a season's loan from Bolton Wanderers.
Al Habsi had limited opportunities at the Reebok Stadium but did impress when offered a run in the side which competed in the UEFA Cup in the 2007/08 season.
Latics manager Roberto Martinez is convinced the 28-year-old can challenge established number one Chris Kirkland.
terrific attitude
"We need competition in every department, and Ali will certainly do that," he said.
"He has a terrific attitude to the game and after four years in England knows all about the Premier League.
"We are delighted to welcome him on board."
The Muscat-born goalkeeper first made his name in Europe at Lyn Oslo in Norway, and has appeared 70 times for his country.
