Carlos Tevez will play no part in the Community Shield after being given extra time off by Manchester City.
The Blues are set to face arch-rivals Manchester United in the traditional curtain-raiser to the Premier League season on Sunday.
Roberto Mancini will be without the services of Tevez, though, as the uncertainty surrounding his future continues to cast an unwelcome shadow over Eastlands.
The Argentina international has made it clear that he wants out of City, with it his intention to secure a move elsewhere.
A switch to former employers Corinthians collapsed earlier in the summer, but it is still possible that a big-money deal could materialise.
City are prepared to do business if the price is right, but Mancini claims he is still planning to discuss the situation with Tevez.
Extended leaveHe will, however, be forced to wait a little longer before speaking with the South American face-to-face as he is not due to report back for training until Monday.
Tevez has already been granted extended leave this summer after representing Argentina at the Copa America.
It was initially claimed that he would be back in England on 4th August, but that deadline has now been pushed back.
A spokesman for City has confirmed that a light training session is planned for Monday, with the whole first-team squad expected to attend.
"Carlos has now been given extended leave so he can return on Monday, which is 21 days after Argentina's exit from the Copa America," said the spokesman.
