Sources: Eric Bledsoe subject of talks


The Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Clippers have been discussing the possibility of completing a trade headlined by Magic shooting guard Arron Afflalo and prized L.A. point guard Eric Bledsoe in conjunction with Thursday's NBA draft, according to sources close to the process.


Sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that a trade with those two playersas the principals could happen as soon as this week and potentiallycould be expanded to include Magic forward Andrew Nicholson and a future first-round pick as compensation for the highly coveted Bledsoe.

NBA Rumor Roundup: Celtics have Josh Smith sign-and-trade offer ready


Consider the departure of Doc Rivers Phase II of the Celtics’ slowdismantling, which began last summer with Ray Allen leaving Boston.Phase III will come this week, when Boston must either trade Paul Pierceor decide to buy him out. They have until June 30 to inform Pierce ofsuch a move.


                                            
As for the rebuilding sure to follow the dismantling, that iscontingent on what happens with Pierce. If the Celtics can unload Pierceto a team with enough cap space to absorb his salary, they will get atrade exception worth Pierce’s salary, or $15.3 million. And if thathappens, the plan is already in place. According to a source, theCeltics have a sign-and-trade offer ready for Atlanta forward Josh Smiththat would be the top priority in free agency.

Knicks free agent Chris Copeland could fly the coop for the Big Easy to become a Pelican, The Post has learned.

According to an NBA source, the newly named New Orleans Pelicans are planning to make a strong bid for the 6-foot-9 sniper as they are well under the salary cap and can make an offer that will blow Knicks owner James Dolan out of the water.

The Knicks can match any Copeland offer since he is a restricted free agent, but only up to $3.1 million — their mini mid-level exception. Since the Pelicans are under the cap, they can easily top that number.

The Pelicans are thin at small forward, having started Al-Farouq Aminu this season. The former Hornets love the inside-outside game Copeland displayed as a Knicks rookie out of the Ethias League in Belgium.

The new rules of the collective bargaining agreement penalizing luxury-taxpayers could very well end the Knicks’ chances of keeping Copeland. Under the old CBA, the Knicks’ mid-level exception was $5.5 million to sign a free agent. But the taxpayers’ mid-level is just $3.18 million now.

Pacers president Donnie Walsh also has interest in Copeland after watching him in the playoff series against Indiana. But Indiana is not under the salary cap. Copeland has stated his strong preference is to remain a Knick, but the financial situation may make that impossible.

The Post first reported Copeland was seeking “Steve Novak money’’ — four years, $16 million.

In anticipation of Copeland’s possible departure, the Knicks worked out their former 3-point ace Shawne Williams yesterday.

Nets Make Trade Call To Celtics On Kevin Garnett

The Brooklyn Nets are pursuing a trade for Kevin Garnett, according to sources.

Garnett is reportedly interested in playing for the Nets.

Garnett would have approved a trade from the Boston Celtics to the Los Angeles Clippers. With the Doc Rivers' deal being approved by the NBA, the Clippers and Celtics cannot exchange players until the 14-15 season.

Garnett has a no trade clause and $24.4 million over the next two seasons on his contract.

With Rivers' departure from the Celtics, the future of Garnett and Paul Pierce becomes uncertain.

Ray Allen Unlikely To Opt In On 13-14 Contract With Heat

Rashard Lewis and James Jones opted in on their contracts with the Miami Heat for the 13-14 NBA season.

Ray Allen, however, hasn't opted in and is unlikely to before Saturday's deadline.

Allen has one season at $3.2 million remaining on the two-year deal he signed last offseason.

Allen can become Miami's Non-Bird exception to sign a four-year deal with annual 4.5 percent raises.

The Heat cannot re-sign Allen until the moratorium is lifted on July 10.

Knicks Extend Qualifying Offer To Chris Copeland

The New York Knicks have extended a qualifying offer to Chris Copeland.

Copeland will become a restricted free agent this offseason, giving the Knicks the ability to match an offer sheet.

Eric Gordon 'Very Available' In Trade Talks

The New Orleans Pelicans are making Eric Gordon "very available" in trade talks, according to a source that spoke with RealGM.

Gordon signed a four-year, $58 million deal with the Phoenix Suns last offseason that was matched by the Pelicans. Gordon badly wanted to play for the Suns and was publicly disappointed by the Pelicans' decision to match.

Gordon played in just 42 games last season due to a continued string of injuries.
