Chelsea new-boy Samuel Eto'o in Cameroon quit threat
CHELSEA striker Samuel Eto'o has threatened to quit the Cameroon national team for 'family reasons' after a row with coach Volker Finke.




Eto'o helped Cameroon reach the final round of qualifying for next summer's World Cup after beating Libya 1-0.

But the 32-year-old looks set to retire from international football, after French sports paper L'Equipe reported that he told team-mates
after the game he was set to quit for 'family reasons'.
The speculation follows a week of tension within the Cameroon camp, that reached boiling point
when Eto'o demanded Finke pick Malaga goalkeeper Carlos Kameni and Fenerbahce striker Pierre Achille Webo.

However the Indomitable Lions coach refused, causing Eto'o to announce his international retirement to the squad for a second time
after standing down from selection in September 2012.





Eto'o initially suggested he was not fit to play against Libya because of a groin injury, but he did take part in the match
and even wore the captain's armband before being replaced on the hour mark.

Cameroon now face a two-legged playoff in October and November to qualify for Brazil, and are set to be without their talismanic forward.

Eto'o joined Chelsea from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, and his absence from Cameroon selection could be useful to manager Jose Mourinho this season.

The former Barcelona hitman has scored 56 goals in 114 appearances for his country and appeared at three World Cup finals in 1998, 2002 and 2010.

Samuel Eto'o: Coach won't confirm striker's Cameroon retirement



Cameroon coach Volke Finke refused to confirm reports that Samuel Eto'o has retired from international football.
Chelsea's four-time African Player of the Year, 32, reportedly told team-mates  that Sunday's 1-0 win over Libya was his last Indomitable Lions match.
Victory qualified them for the African play-offs for the 2014 World Cup.
"Samuel Eto'o is a great player and it is better that he should be the one to explain things. He is the one who knows his decision," Finke said.

"He has given a lot to football and Cameroon and that is why he is the one to explain this."
Eto'o, who joined Chelsea from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala last month, did not attend the post-match news conference to confirm or deny whether he was retiring.
But BBC Sport understands the striker wants to concentrate on his academy.
Eto'o is also paying for treatment for former national coach Jean Paul Akono, who had a stroke earlier this year.

Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o 'damaging' to team spirit, says former Anzhi Makhachkala manager Roberto Carlos


Roberto Carlos, the former Real Madrid and Brazil full-back, has warned Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho about the "damaging" influence Samuel Eto'o
can have in the dressing room following his surprise transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Carlos, who managed Eto'o during his time in charge of Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, claimed that the Cameroonian almost forced him to quit after persistently
interfering with matters outside of his jurisdiction.
"There's a part of him that thinks 'I, and not the group', which is really damaging," said Carlos. "When a footballer, instead of playing, is interested in signing players
who are his friends . . . it's confusing and strange. He did everything at Anzhi, except play football."
Depite his criticism of the new Chelsea striker who could make his debut against Everton at the weekend, Carlos admitted that he was fond of the 32-year-old.
"I've known Eto'o since I was 16, and from that time on he's always been a good guy who I've liked a lot. He's a good person," Carlos said in an interview
with Brazilian newspaper Globoesporte. However, Carlos added that managing the forward at Anzhi Makhachkala was a different matter entirely.

Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o has reversed his decision to retire from international football and will join up with Cameroon for next week's 2014

World Cup Africa Zone play-off in Tunisia. Eto'o, who quit the 'Indomitable Lions' last month, will now be available to face Tunisia on October 13

followed by the return leg November 17.The 32-year-old, who made the move to Stamford Bridge this summer,


said: "You can have all the problems in the world but you have to see out your mission.

"And this time it's to join my team-mates in Tunisia and return with a good result."

Eto'o, who made his debut for Cameroon in 1997, has regularly disagreed with Cameroon coaches and was banned last year after inciting a bonus-related boycott of a friendly in Algeria.
