Raul to reportedly join New York Cosmos

Real Madrid’s legendary striker, Raul Gonzalez Blanco will reportedly leave his current club,
Al Sadd and join North American Soccer League (NASL) side, New York Cosmos this summer.




According to Spanish sports daily, AS, Raul has made the decision to end his two-year spell with Qatari side Al Sadd
and join his former Spanish international teammate, Marcos Senna in New York.

The 36-year-old, who will be 37 upon joining the club, was previously linked with a move to the States last December,
with Senna urging the iconic Spaniard to leave the Middle East.

“If you told me I could sign a forward now, I would love to bring in Raul,
because of what he represents as a person –with his professionalism, commitment and ability.
He’s exactly the type of person we want at the club.”

There has been official word from Raul or the Cosmos at the time of publication, yet fans of the club that featured such former greats
as Pele, Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer are hoping to relive the glory days with the signing of Raul.

“We have not agreed to terms with or signed any player that is currently not already on our active roster.”

Raul ‘close to New York Cosmos’

Real Madrid icon Raul could be about to move to the New York Cosomos, reports in Spain have claimed.

Raul currently plays for Al Sadd of Qatar and is said by AS to have been considering retirement to work as a coach, but first will take in a spell in the United States.

The Cosmos play in the North American Soccer League, the Division below MLS, and in the past have boasted names such as Pele and Franz Beckenbauer.

Euro 2008 winner Marcos Senna is currently at the club while New York Red Bulls,

who play in the top flight, have the likes of former Barca pair Thierry Henry and Rafael Marquez in their squad.

ESPN: New York Cosmos and Raul agree terms
The former Real Madrid and Spain striker will sign his new contract with the North American outfit this week.

New York Cosmos and Raul have reached an agreement which will see the former Real Madrid and Spain striker play for the North Americans as from January 2015, ESPN reports.
The 37-year-old will travel to the States this week to formally sign a contract, committing to the club for at least two seasons.
The ex-Madridista will combine playing in the NASL with coaching Cosmos’ youth team, which is due to be launched in the New Year.

Raul visited Cosmos’ training complex at the start of October and met the squad and coach Giovanni Savarese during his stay.
