World Cup: Landon Donovan fails to make USA's 23-man World Cup squad Landon Donovan has missed out on playing at a fourth World Cup finals after being dropped from the United States squad. The
32-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy forward was one of seven players cut from the USA roster when coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced his final 23 on Thursday.
Donovan was
part of the US squad that competed at the Japan/Korea 2002, Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010 tournaments and has racked up 156 international caps to date.
However, Klinsmann has opted against selecting Donovan for this summer's finals in Brazil, with the former Everton loanee in poor form for the Galaxy of late.
Former Rangers and Stoke midfielder Maurice Edu was also dropped having been a part of Klinsmann's provisional 30-man squad,
along with defenders Clarence Goodson, Michael Parkhurst and Brad Evans.
Midfielder Joe Corona and striker Terrence Boyd were the other players omitted.
That meant
surprise call-ups for Bayern Munich midfielder Julian Green, who will turn 19 early next month, plus Seattle Sounders
attacking right-back DeAndre Yedlin and Hertha Berlin defender John Brooks. Together, the trio have won just six caps between them thus far.
Goalkeepers Brad Guzan (Aston Villa) and Tim Howard (Everton), defender Geoff Cameron (Stoke)
and striker Jozy Altidore (Sunderland) are the four Premier League representatives to make the squad.
The USA will open their Group G challenge against Ghana in Natal on June 16 before taking on Portugal in Manaus six days later. They then meet Germany in Recife on June 26.
United States' World Cup squad: Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake).

Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Jermaine Jones (Besiktas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City).
Strikers: Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes).
