Liverpool have agreed a £12million deal to sign long-term transfer target Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno.

Brendan Rodgers made signing a left-back his priority earlier this summer and singled out the 22-year-old as his number one target.

Sevilla insisted that Moreno was going nowhere unless their 20 million euro asking price was met

with manager Unai Emery insisting on Monday that he would play in the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid.

However, Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre managed to thrash out a deal for Moreno in Cardiff

before the game that Real won 2-0, and the player was withdrawn from the side.

The Spain international, who came through his home-town club’s youth system, is now set to undergo a medical at Anfield and discuss personal terms.

A statement on the Liverpool club website read:

"Liverpool can confirm they have reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of Spain international full-back Alberto Moreno.

"The Reds will proceed with the formalities of finalising the deal for the 22-year-old over the coming days and will make no further announcement until it is complete."

There were emotional scenes on Tuesday night in Cardiff after the Super Cup among the Sevilla players and staff who were hugging a tearful Moreno on the pitch.

Sevilla coach Emery insisted Moreno would leave with the club's blessing and said:

"We didn't have any clear expectation (about the transfer being completed), but it was in our minds.

"This has been in the offing for a month and a half or two. We were aware of the need to take him out of the squad.

And we were in England and close to the teams who are interested in Alberto.

Maybe decisions are speeding up because we are getting towards the end of the transfer window (on August 31).

"We want to wish all the best to Alberto Moreno and we need to continue with our path. He's a player we can no longer count on."

Moreno will become Liverpool’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window, while his arrival is likely to see Martin Kelly join Crystal Palace.

The 24-year-old defender has made more than 30 appearances for Liverpool since making his first-team debut in 2007, but it seems he could be on his way to Selhurst Park.

Liverpool have formalised their interest in Alberto Moreno with an offer worth ?20m (£16.2m) for the Sevilla left-back, according to reports in Spain.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has prioritised a new left-back for this summer and, having considered an approach to Chelsea for Ryan Bertrand,
has made Moreno his preferred option. The 21-year-old enjoyed a fine season with the Europa League winners
and has been included in Spain’s preliminary 30-man squad for the World Cup.

Moreno has been linked with several clubs in recent months, including Chelsea, Napoli, who had an offer for the defender rejected in January, and Real Madrid.
Marca reported last week that Moreno wanted to join the new European champions, who are expected to part company with Fabio Coentrao this summer,
and that Sevilla may delay a decision on his future until after the World Cup should he make the final cut under Vicente del Bosque.

But Liverpool have moved first with a formal offer for the left-back as they attempt to secure proven quality for next season’s return to the Champions League.
The Anfield club’s bid is believed to be worth ?20m in total, a figure that includes Liverpool midfielder Suso as a makeweight.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at La Liga side Almeria.

Liverpool are continuing to negotiate with Bayer Leverkusen and Southampton for Emre Can and Adam Lallana respectively,
although the south coast club’s £30m valuation on the England international is proving prohibitive.
A deal for Can, the Germany Under-21 international midfielder, is also complicated.
Liverpool have informed Leverkusen they will meet the £10m release clause in the 20-year-old’s contract but Bayer are hoping to convince Can to stay while Bayern Munich,
who have a buy-back option on the player they sold for £4.5m last summer, want him to continue his development in Germany before re-signing him next year.

Transfer news: Liverpool linked with Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno



Liverpool have made an offer to Sevilla for left-back Alberto Moreno, according to Sky sources.

The 21-year-old Spain international is considered to be high on the list of targets for manager Brendan Rodgers, and a formal offer has now been made.

It is also understood that the Reds’ 20-year-old Spanish midfielder Suso, who spent last season on loan at La Liga side Almeria, could be used as part of the deal.

Moreno, capped twice for Spain and part of their provisional 30-man squad for the upcoming World Cup,

made 40 appearances in an eye-catching season as Sevilla finished fifth in the Primera Division.

He made his debut in early 2012 and 19 appearances over the subsequent 2012-13 season,

but the most recent campaign has very much been considered his breakthrough at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Having narrowly missed out on a first ever Premier League title this season,

Liverpool boss Rodgers is keen to strengthen the depth of his squad ahead of a first Champions League campaign since 2009-10.

Having signed a new long-term deal, Rodgers said he is reluctant to use the loan market again, suggesting a good number of new permanent signings could be made.

“The players we wanted we couldn't get last year but we're hopeful that this summer will be different,” he said.

“Hopefully that will mean it will be more permanent players than loan players but I can never rule it out completely.

“We are really preparing for next season. I've had some very good meetings with our recruitment team and we are very much together as one."

Transfer news: Sevilla confirm Liverpool interest in Alberto Moreno



Sevilla president Jose Castro has confirmed Liverpool's interest in full-back Alberto Moreno
and he has told any player wanting to leave the club they can do so for the right price.

Moreno is being strongly linked with a move away from the club this summer, along with midfield star Ivan Rakitic.

It has long been suggested that Liverpool are in pole position to land 21-year-old Moreno - who has just missed out on a place in Spain's World Cup squad.

And Castro has now admitted that Liverpool are indeed interested in taking Moreno.

"It's true that there's interest from Liverpool and we're waiting to see if that turns into a reality, which right now, it isn't," Castro told the club's television channel.

Castro insists that the club will not be forced to sell Moreno or Rakitic cheaply, and has denied ongoing reports that the club need to sell in order to bolster their finances.

He said: "What I'm clear about is that we'll not force anyone to stay at Sevilla.

"Whoever wants to leave can do so, but we'll be the ones setting the prices.

"This club is experiencing a time of economic stability and we don't need to sell.

"We're going to be firm about this and we'll only consider selling outside the market, which gives us the opportunity to make our team competitive."

Alberto Moreno’s proposed transfer from Sevilla to Liverpool has reportedly hit the rocks after disagreements about the fee involved.



The left back was set to make his move to Anfield permanent this week but according to a report in the Daily Mail, the Andalusian club want further add-ons to the original fee up front.

The defender was set to fly to England and finalise a transfer early this week, but that looks now to have been put on hold.

The 21-year-old has been in scintilating form this season,

and his performances did not go unnoticed by national team coach Vicente Del Bosque, who selected him for his provisional World Cup squad.

However, Moreno did not make the final cut, leaving him free to open discussions with the Premier League runners up after English rivals Tottenham pulled out of the race.

A transfer of £16.3million was reported to have been agreed between the two clubs,


but now it appears that further negotiations will be needed to prise away one of the Spanish club’s young stars.

The Europa League champions will be desperate to keep hold of many of their key players this summer,

but are set to lose captain Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona after a transfer was agreed this week.

Sevilla and Liverpool are no longer in active negotiations over Spanish international defender, Alberto Moreno as the deal appears to be off for the time being.

According to Andalusian newspaper, El Correo, Sevilla and Liverpool were deep in negotiations over the sale of Moreno,
with Liverpool offering ?20 million and Suso on a one-year loan, but Sevilla isn’t interested in the fiery youngster and is only interested in a straight cash transfer.

Due to Sevilla’s stance, Liverpool have backed off to the point that there has been no communication for almost a week.

Sources close to Moreno admit that while the player would like to sort his future sooner rather than later, he isn’t concerned, as he still has a multi-year contract with his boyhood club Sevilla and would have no bearing on his performance under Unai Emery next season, ensuring that the 21-year-old is perfectly content on staying in Andalusia and won’t pressure the club.

As things stand now, Moreno and Liverpool have agreed to terms on a five-year deal that would pay him well beyond his current wages,
but it is looking more and more likely that Alberto Moreno will not be playing at Anfield next season.

Liverpool have been told they can sign Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno - as long as they meet the club's asking price.

The club's president Jose Castro confirmed that Brendan Rogers' side are one of several teams interested in signing the highly-rated 21-year-old,

but explained that serious negotiations were yet to begin while emphasising that Sevilla were under no pressure to cash in on the Spain international.

"It's true that there is interest from a number of clubs, above all Liverpool, in him,

but we haven't had proper conversations about selling him," Castro said in an interview with Spanish newspaper ABC.

"Signing any player from this club has a price and we will decide that price.

If Alberto Moreno has to stay at the club he will stay but if a club pays the amount we think is big enough for him to leave, he will leave. But there is no pressure.

"We haven't reached an agreement, but talks haven't broken down. We'll wait and see what happens.


If Liverpool are interested in the player and pay the right amount, he will be sold."
