David Blatt accepts Cavs job

CLEVELAND -- David Blatt went overseas to chase his basketball dreams. He's coming back to fulfill them.

American-born, Princeton-schooled and considered one of the game's brightest offensive minds, Blatt, 55, has long been interested in coaching in the NBA, and the Cavs will give him his first shot.

Blatt was given a three-year deal worth about $10 million with a fourth-year team option that includes incentives, sources told ESPN.com.

Blatt led Maccabi Tel Aviv to a stunning upset of Real Madrid in this year's Euroleague championship, and in the celebration afterward, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pleaded with him to stay. But the chance to coach in the NBA was too much to resist, and Blatt, who emigrated to Israel after college, will return to live in the U.S. for the first time in 30 years.

Sources: Bulls pursuing trade for Magic's Arron Afflalo

The Chicago Bulls are pursuing a trade for Orlando Magic swingman Arron Afflalo, league sources told Yahoo Sports.


Afflalo,28, has two years left on his contract – including an Early Termination Option (ETO) provision next summer – and front office executives believe the Magic are prioritizing a trade for Afflalo over working to extend his contract.


It is unclear how the Bulls' pursuit of Afflalo would impact the franchise's free-agent interest in New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony.


The Bulls are searching for shooting to surround the returning Derrick Rose, and Afflalo is coming off his best offensive season, averaging 18.2 points per game on 45.9 percent shooting.


Chicago owns the 16th and 19th overall picks in the draft, and assuredly one ofthose selections would be included in a possible package with the Magic.

Orlando has the fourth and 12th picks in Thursday's draft and arapidly developing young core of talent, including guard Victor Oladipo and center Nikola Vucevic.

Mavs plan to pursue Pau Gasol

The Dallas Mavericks plan to be among the teams pursuing Los Angeles Lakers center/power forward Pau Gasol once free agency begins July 1, according to sources close to the situation.


The Mavs' level of interest in the 7-foot Gasol is largely dependent on his price tag, sources told ESPNDallas.com. The four-time All-Star,who turns 34 next month, is expected to take a major pay cut after making $19.3 million last season.

Gasol could well represent the Mavs' best opportunity to upgrade at thecenter position via free agency. They also have significant interest in Washington's Marcin Gortat, whom they recruited as a restricted free agent in 2009, signing him to an offer sheet that was surprisingly matched by the Orlando Magic.


Sources say the Mavs also have interest in free-agent small forward Luol Deng,although there are concerns about his durability after the two-time All-Star missed 75 games over the previous four seasons and led the league in minutes per game twice in the last four seasons.
