Transfer news: Swansea set to sign Portugal striker Nelson Oliveira on loan Swansea City are close to agreeing a loan deal for Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira, according to Sky sources. The Portugual international, 23, has barely played for Benfica despite progressing through the club’s youth system and signing professional terms in 2009.
Oliveira has had loan spells at four clubs, including Spanish side Deportiva La Coruna and French club Rennes, and is set to join the Swans until the end of the season. Swansea are in need of a striker to replace Wilfried Bony, who is almost certain to feature for Ivory Coast at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Michu is on loan at Napoli for the remainder of the season leaving boss Gary Monk with only Marvin Emnes, Bafetimbi Gomis and Rory Donnelly as his options up front.
Sky Sports also understands Swansea have not received any approaches for Bony, and would staunchly resist any should they come in during the January window.
The 25-year-old, who held talks with Liverpool in the summer, signed a contract extension at the Liberty Stadium in November which ties him to the club until 2018.
