John Terry: Chelsea captain wants new 12-month contract



John Terry wants to extend his Chelsea playing career by another 12 months.

The 34-year-old centre-back, whose contact expires at the end of the season, has made 656 appearances in 16 years for the Premier League leaders.

"The club know my position," said the former England captain. "I want to stay. Hopefully my performances are showing that and they can keep me.

"I'll be happy to get one year and then see how it goes. I'm taking it year by year. I haven't got much choice."

Terry made his first team debut in October 1998, and replaced Marcel Desailly as club captain at the start of the 2004-05 campaign.

He is the most successful captain in the club's history, having led Chelsea to three Premier League titles, a Champions League success, four FA Cups and two League Cups.

Terry's former Chelsea and England team-mates, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, were allowed to leave the club once they had reached the end of their contracts.

Midfielder Eden Hazard, 24, is the latest Chelsea player to sign a contract extension, a move that has been welcomed by Terry, who added: "Hazard has just been done and that's the most important for the club."

34歲的泰利自14歲起便是車路士一員，在1998年10月首次為球隊上演處子戰。轉眼間昔日的小將已經成為球隊隊長，他亦剛剛與球隊續約一年，合約將會在明年夏天屆滿。

近日在一個訪問中，泰利憶起自己年輕時在車路士的趣事：「我幾乎為資深的球員做過所有事，除了為他們沖茶沖咖啡外，更做過一些愚蠢的事，當中包括在冬季時為他們坐暖廁所板。」

「回想起來這些行為是十分奇怪，但這是你成長的一部份。」

同時，泰利亦透露自己與球隊前隊長韋斯（Dennis Wise）建立了深厚關係：「我總是為韋斯清理球靴，由於他追求完美，我總是特別小心照顧它們。他每次入球後總會給予我25鎊作為獎金，這是我當時一半薪金。所以我經常也在祈求球隊獲得12碼或他取得入球。」

「記得在訓練時我總會對當時一線隊的球員作出攔截，有時候那些海外球員會特別不喜歡這種情況，記得有次彼德斯古捏住我的喉嚨並問我：『你知道自己現在在做些甚麼嗎？』」

「那個首先衝過來支持我的就是韋斯，他說：『若果你有意見，來找我，而不是找年輕球員。』我與彼德斯古現在談起這件事也會笑起來。」（Goal.com）

Since his debut in 1998, the club captain has made 661 appearances, scoring a club record 63 goals for a defender.
His man-of-the-match display in the Capital One Cup final on 1 March brought his 13th major honour with the Blues, a third League Cup win added to the Champions League,
Europa League and three Premier League titles, with Terry also boasting five FA Cup winner’s medals.

Terry said: ‘I'm delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea.

‘After adding another major trophy to my collection this month I hope myself, the players and manager can continue to bring success to our club.

‘Playing for this great club makes me so proud. And as always I would like to thank the fans who have continually supported me.’

Jose Mourinho added: ‘This new contract is not to say “thank you very much”; it is because John continues to perform. He is a top defender.
I am happy that he completely deserves this new contract after a season where he has already played 40 matches.’

Added to the extensive list of silverware he has lifted, Terry has also celebrated major individual awards, having been voted the PFA Player of the Year in 2005 and appearing in five consecutive FIFPro World XI teams.
He has won the Chelsea Player of the Year award twice, and has captained the club in the most successful period of our 110-year history.

John Terry: Jose Mourinho says Chelsea will offer captain new deal

Chelsea captain John Terry will be offered a new contract by the Premier League leaders, according to manager Jose Mourinho.

The former England skipper's current deal expires at the end of the season.

Terry, 34, has made more than 550 appearances for the club since signing professional terms in 1998.

"I can guarantee he will be a Chelsea player next season," said Mourinho. "I know what my board tells me - no doubts he's going to get his contract."

Terry is likely to be offered a new one-year deal as Chelsea have a club policy that players over the age of 30 are given only 12-month extensions.

He was named man of the match in Sunday's Capital One Cup final after scoring the opening goal in his side's 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Speaking after the game, Terry said: "If this is my last year, then I hope it goes out on a bang. But I am feeling great at the minute and it would be the wrong time to go."

Terry captained Chelsea to two Premier League titles in Mourinho's first spell at Stamford Bridge but was not always selected by interim boss Rafael Benitez during an injury-troubled 2012-13 season.

The Blues lead the Premier League by five points with 12 games to play, and have a game in hand on second-placed Manchester City.

They face West Ham at Upton Park on Wednesday.
