Liverpool agree deal to sign Burnley forward Danny Ings



Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign striker Danny Ings from relegated Burnley.

Ings has agreed personal terms and will move to Anfield on July 1 after his contract expires, subject to passing a medical.

He has opted for Merseyside despite interest from Tottenham, who had been willing to pay £12m for Ings in order to discuss a transfer with him provided the bid was accepted.

Burnley are due a compensation fee for the player because he is under 24 but they have rejected Liverpool’s undisclosed offer and talks are ongoing as the clubs bid to reach a settlement.

If they are unable to do so, the amount will be determined by the Premier League, who would have to form a compensation committee to deal with the case.

Bournemouth, Ings’ previous club, will also be due a small amount for the part they played in his development as a teenager before he left in 2011.

The 22-year-old scored 21 times in the 2013/14 season to help Burnley win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

He then netted 11 times in 35 appearances last season and although his goals were not enough to keep the Lancashire club up, his performances have earned him praise.

Ings, capped nine times for England at U21 level and having scored four goals, has also been tipped for a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s full squad.

Danny Ings: Burnley striker expected to leave club - Dyche



Striker Danny Ings is expected to leave Burnley in the summer, manager Sean Dyche has confirmed.
Ings, 22, has scored 10 Premier League goals this season for the relegated Clarets.
He is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with moves to Liverpool and David Moyes' Real Sociedad.
"It's good to see his development, " said Dyche after Burnley's goalless draw with Stoke at Turf Moor. "But it looks like it won't continue with us."

Any club wanting to sign Ings in the summer would have to pay a fee, decided by a tribunal, as he is under 24.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live after the match Dyche added: "He and his agent have put the message out that they are looking at pastures new.
"Every player has the right to run down their contract if they should want to. We will see what happens in the summer."
Ings, capped at England Under-21 level, moved to Turf Moor from Bournemouth in August 2011 for a fee of about £1m.

Tottenham are ready to bid £12m for Burnley striker Danny Ings, according to Sky sources.

Ings is out of contract at the end of June and has been linked with Liverpool, and any club signing the 23-year-old on a free transfer would have to pay Burnley compensation.

But Sky sources understand Spurs are ready to steal a march on any rival suitors by offering an eight-figure sum now in the hope they will get the first chance to talk to the player.

Ings, brought to Turf Moor from Bournemouth four years ago, scored 11 goals this season for Burnley but was unable to keep the club in the Premier League.

And the England U21 striker, part of Gareth Southgate's squad for the European Championships, says he will delay a decision on his future until after a short break.

"My holiday's the first thing on my mind. I'm looking forward to a bit of downtime and after that it's going to be hard work again," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"It's going to be a short summer for me this year but I love football so I'd play it every day if I could. After that I'll sit down with my agent and discuss my future then. At the moment it's all up in the air. I don't know what's going to happen."

Ings has already said his goodbyes to Burnley supporters, and he said: "It's a sad time for me. Burnley Football Club helped me mature from a boy to a man and I can't thank them everyone from the club enough, from the board to the staff at the training ground and the staff at the club.

"It's been a fantastic journey, so of course it would be upsetting for it to come to an end. But that's football and it happens with every player. I thank everyone from the fans to the staff, everyone's been fantastic."

Liverpool FC Transfers: Reds set to open talks with Danny Ings this week



Liverpool are set to open talks with Danny Ings this week as they look to wrap up a deal for the Burnley striker.

Ings’ contract at Turf Moor will expire at the end of June, and the England U21 man has informed the Clarets he has no intention of signing another.

And having rejected Burnley’s offer of a new deal – a formality under Premier League rules – Ings is now free to discuss terms with other clubs.

Despite reported interest from Tottenham, the 22-year-old is understood to favour a move to Anfield, and is expected to begin talks with the Reds in the next few days, ahead of a proposed transfer on July 1.

The fee for Ings will be decided by a tribunal, though it is likely to be around £4m. Liverpool are keen to get as much of their business done as quickly as possible this summer, and see him as an important acquisition.

The frontman, who scored 11 goals for Sean Dyche’s relegated side this season, is set to represent England at the European U21 Championships this month.
