Indian Super League: Adrian Mutu to grace the ISL in FC Pune City colours The Romanian attacker was close to joining the Pune franchise last season, but will now link-up with his new teammates for the second edition of the ISL.. FC Pune City, the Pune-based franchise of the Indian Super League (ISL), will unveil their marquee signing Adrian Mutu in the Deccan City on Thursday amongst much enthusiasm and fanfare.
The former Chelsea and Fiorentina attacker joins the likes of Yendrick Ruiz, Nickey Shorey and Steve Simonsen as one to grace the Orange and Purple of the club, who finished sixth in the inaugural edition of the ISL.
Sources close to Goal have confirmed the arrival of the former Romanian international, who scored 35 goals in 77 games for the Tricolorii.
In a career spanning 424 league games and 164 league goals, Mutu has played predominnatly in the Italian Seria A, with outfits such as Juventus, Fiorentina and Inter. He has won the league twice in Italy, though they have been revoked under the Calciopoli scandal, whilst also being crowned the Romanian player of the year four times. He hada sole season at Chelsea FC in 2003.
A former winner of the Romanian league with Dinamo Bucharest, the 36-year-old joins Pune City after spending last season at Petrolul Ploiești, albeit he was injured for most of the time. Mutu will now look to put on his firing boots and aim to do what David Trezeguet, Pune City's marque last season, failed at - scoring a glut of goals.
