Porto announce signing of Dani OsvaldoPorto have today completed the signing of striker Dani Osvaldo, after Southampton decided to terminate his contract two years early following a controversial spell at St Mary’s.
The 29-year-old joined Southampton from Roma in a club-record deal worth £14.6 million (fee via ESPN FC) in the summer of 2013 and it seemed like a move which would reap the dividends after a good start for him.
However, after just six months he was loaned out to Juventus before he returned back to the Saints in the summer of 2014.
He was not there for long, however, as Osvaldo completed a loan switch back to Italy to join Inter Milan. Again, that failed to work out and Osvaldo was suspended by Inter in January 2015 for not turning up to training for 2 days.
Issues with Mauro Icardi reportedly caused friction and the striker moved to Boca Juniors the next month until the end of June.
After they failed to make it permanent and Southampton terminated his deal, Porto have now moved in for the striker as they look to fill the void left behind by Jackson Martinez, who joined Atletico Madrid this summer.
