Ramires signs new contract NEWS THU 29 OCT 2015
Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Ramires has signed a new contract until 2019. The midfielder, who has already made 241 appearances for Chelsea, said: ‘I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. ‘My family and I are very happy here in London and in the past five years the club has lifted every major trophy. I hope to be an important part of many more successes in the next four years.’ Ramires signed for Chelsea’s Double-winners from Benfica in the summer of 2010, proving popular with team-mates, managers and supporters thanks to his energetic displays from midfield.
His first year in England saw him take Chelsea’s Goal of the Season award thanks to a superb solo effort against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian, who has a total of 33 Chelsea goals to his name, retained the award a year later after his famous chip against Barcelona and although he was suspended for the Champions League final he had contributed as much as anyone in our journey to Munich.
He also opened the scoring in that season’s FA Cup final win against Liverpool at Wembley.
Ramires added the Europa League to his burgeoning medal collection at the end of the 2012/13 campaign - a season in which he played 62 of our 69 matches.
The 28-year-old has remained a consistent and committed member of the squad under Jose Mourinho, operating either at the heart of midfield or as a winger capable of helping his defenders while bursting forward to support attacks.
After picking up his first Premier League winner’s medal at the end of last season, Ramires has begun this term in fine form, and we can now look forward to plenty more Chelsea appearances for one of the club’s longest-serving current players.
