Steve Parish is hopeful Crystal Palace will sign on-loan Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho on a permanent basis, but insists the deal must work for both Premier League clubs.

The France international joined the Eagles in January and played a vital role in keeping them in the top-flight.

Sky Sports News HQ understands that Sakho has no future at Liverpool and will be allowed to leave in the summer if the club's £30m valuation is met.

"The money needs to work for us and for Liverpool and I'm sure there will be a negotiation on that and, if we can make it work, of course we'd like to," Palace co-owner Parish told Holmesdale Radio.

"I'm not going to try and be coy about it, he's a very, very good player and I think he likes being with us and we like him, so let's hope we can do it."

Sakho helped Palace keep four clean sheets and record five victories in eight league matches before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the 1-0 loss to Tottenham in April.

He has since remained with the club and watched from the stands as Palace defeated Hull 4-0 on Super Sunday to make sure of Premier League survival.

Parish added: "The player could have gone anywhere once he was injured, he could have gone back to Liverpool but he has been with us and was there on Sunday.

"You can't be more impressed with that, you can't con anyone that he didn't make a massive difference to us, we won some massive games with him.

"He's a really nice person, he's a big character, he's got the respect of all the players and it's one we'd like to do but of course we have a lot of things we need to do in the summer."

Crystal Palace have signed centre-back Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool for £26m.

The offer was Palace's fourth of the summer for the defender, 27, after a £25m bid was rejected on Tuesday.

Liverpool previously said they would not take less than £30m for the French international, who had a loan spell at Selhurst Park last season.

"I loved the challenge last year," said Sakho. "It was difficult but beautiful and it's why this summer I thought that Palace was the best choice."

Palace had also made bids for Everton striker Oumar Niasse and Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala but were unable to complete either deal.

Senegal's Niasse, who had also been a £10m target for Brighton, spent last year at Hull, where he scored five goals in 20 games.

And Mangala was the subject of a failed £23m offer from the Selhurst Park club.

Palace instead refocused their efforts on recruiting Sakho, who was surplus to requirements at Anfield after falling out of favour with manager Jurgen Klopp.

Palace chairman Steve Parish was successful with his latest offer after a bid worth £22m plus £3m in add-ons was turned down.

But having made a slight compromise, Liverpool have turned a profit on a player they signed for £18m from Paris St-Germain in September 2013.

Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion had also been interested in the defender but it is believed a return to London was always his favoured option.

Sakho established himself as a favourite during his loan spell last season, making the club's player of the season shortlist despite managing just eight appearances before picking up a knee injury.

Palace have started the season with three Premier League defeats under new manager Frank de Boer.

Sakho Makes Permanent Crystal Palace Move



Crystal Palace have completed the permanent signing of Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The centre-back returns to Selhurst Park after spending a successful loan spell at the Eagles last season, which saw him feature eight times, helping Palace claiming 16 points during that period which played a huge part in their successful battle against relegation last term.

Sakho, 27, played 80 times for the Reds since signing from French giants Paris Saint-Germain back in September 2013. He had made over 200 appearances for his hometown club before making the move to the Premier League, having won the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de la Ligue, Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions during his time in the French capital.

He has also been capped 28 times by his country since earning his first cap against England in 2010, scoring twice for Les Bleus which both came in a crucial World Cup qualifier against Ukraine three years after his international bow.

Mamadou Sakho is set to complete a £26million move from Liverpool to Crystal Palace.

The France international has travelled to London to undergo a medical after the two clubs finally reached an agreement over the fee.

Eagles chairman Steve Parish increased their offer on deadline day after a third bid of £22million up front with a further £3million to follow in add-ons was rejected on Wednesday.

Sakho had also attracted interest from Leicester City and West Brom but his preference was always to move to Selhurst Park where he enjoyed a successful loan spell in the second half of last season.

The centre-back's performances for Palace helped them pull away from the relegation zone and he was a popular figure with their fans.

Palace had little option but to stump up more cash after enduring a nightmare start to the campaign.

Sakho, who cost £18million from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, hasn’t played for the Reds since April 2016.

His relationship with Jurgen Klopp broke down after he angered the manager with repeated breaches of club discipline.

Liverpool have rejected a £25 million bid from Crystal Palace for Mamadou Sakho.

Palace chairman Steve Parish made an offer of an initial £22m with a further £3m in add-ons, but the Merseyside club is standing firm on a £30m valuation.

Palace have now made three bids for the French defender this summer. Sakho is keen to return to Selhurst Park where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season.

Palace are not the only club to express interest in Sakho, as both West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City are also ready to bid if no deal is struck.

Liverpool have insisted they will not sell for less than £30m ever since Sakho was made available for transfer.

Sakho has not played for Liverpool since suffering a Uefa suspension and exile from football on false grounds having been wrongly informed he had taken an illegal substance in 2016.

He missed the Europa League Final and European championships before being allowed to return to domestic football a year ago.

On his comeback, he irked manager Jurgen Klopp with his ill-discipline and lack of fitness, and was banished from the first team squad having received numerous warnings.

Klopp was unwilling to offer a way back and Sakho moved to Palace on loan last January, assisting the club’s survival efforts before picking up a knee injury.

Despite Liverpool’s search for a new centre-back, Sakho has not been under consideration and has been training with the club’s Under 23 squad.

Liverpool are seeking to offload a couple players before the transfer deadline.

As well as Sakho, winger Lazar Markovic is expected to move on. Watford have been in discussions for the player since Marco Silva was appointed. Silva worked with Markovic at Hull last season.

Discussions are ongoing with a loan move to Vicarage Road looking the most likely, although that may not go through until deadline day as Liverpool would prefer to sell the Serbian international.
