Jorginho, the Napoli midfielder, expects to move to England this summer, with each member of the Premier League’s top six interested in signing the Italian.

It is understood that Napoli have set an asking price of ?60 million (£52.9 million) for Jorginho after he played a key role in helping the Italian club mount a title challenge.

The 26-year-old has scored three goals – including one against Manchester City – this season, but his main role has been linking Napoli’s defence and attack.

City, the Premier League champions, have scouted Jorginho extensively this season, and are considered to be the front-runners in the race for the holding midfielder’s signature.

Jorginho, who was born in Brazil, but moved to Italy at a young age, is an admirer of Pep Guardiola’s style of play. The City manager views Jorginho as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, who turned 33 last week. The Catalan will also be one midfielder light for next season after Yaya Touré reached the end of his contract.

But Guardiola will face competition from second-placed Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal for Jorginho.

All five clubs have sounded out the Italian’s representatives through intermediaries recently.

Jorginho is Liverpool’s no.1 midfield target for the summer transfer window, but the Merseyside club believe he is likely to plump for City.

Jorginho has also told friends that he believes Maurizio Sarri, who presently manages Napoli, would be interested in taking him to Chelsea should he replace Antonio Conte in the home dugout at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Jorginho has made it clear that he would like to move to England at the end of the season and plans to speak to Napoli officials following the culmination of the Italian season in just under two weeks’ time.

Napoli are refusing to budge from their asking price, which could prove tricky for Arsenal, who also have the disadvantage of not being able to offer the midfielder Champions League football.

The Italian club have reluctantly accepted that they will have to cash in on Jorginho, who they signed from Verona four years ago, because he has two years left on his contract.

Jorginho won the Coppa Italia with Napoli in 2014. The midfielder has Italian citizenship through his grandparents and has played for the national team five times.

Jorginho's Chelsea move leaves Man City fuming at De Laurentiis's 'unprecedented lack of professionalism'

City sources believe the midfielder was "bullied" into moving to Stamford Bridge by the Napoli chairman, who wanted compensation for Maurizio Sarri

Manchester City have been left furious by Jorginho's controversial move to Chelsea , with club sources citing "an unprecedented lack of professionalism" on the part of Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis.

City say Jorginho was given an ultimatum by De Laurentiis that amounts to the midfielder effectively being "bullied" into signing for Chelsea.

The Premier League champions had reached an agreement with Napoli more than a fortnight ago , and had ironed out personal terms with the 26-year-old midfielder long before the end of last season.

Jorginho and his agent had made it clear to City officials that he was determined to play for the club and work with Pep Guardiola .

However, City believe he was left with no choice but to sign for Chelsea.

For the past several weeks the Londoners had been trying to negotiate a compensation package with Napoli for coach Maurizio Sarri, who had been relieved of his duties by De Laurentiis and was lined up to replace Antonio Conte.

Talks had reached an impasse, however, and it soon became clear to De Laurentiis that he would only receive the desired ?8 million (£7m/$9m) pay-off for Sarri from Chelsea if it also included in a deal for Jorginho, whom Sarri wanted to bring to Stamford Bridge.

At this point, City sources claim, De Laurentiis reneged on the deal he had personally signed off, as the Chelsea package was the only way to recieve the money for Sarri.

City figures insist that De Laurentiis told Jorginho at the start of this week that he would either have to sign for Chelsea or be forced to see out the final two years of his deal at Napoli.

Jorginho had decided to move on this summer and had already made it clear that he did not want to renew his contract, and his relationship with Sarri means he was happy to sign at Stamford Bridge.

But City stress that he would much rather have signed for them, only to have been denied the opportunity by De Laurentiis.

Jorginho's move to Chelsea leaves City in the lurch, having long since expected to bring in the Brazil-born midfielder to bolster their ranks for next season.

City had previously missed out on Fred after he elected to join Manchester United, so then decided upon Jorginho as the man to eventually replace Fernandinho, 33, at the base of Guardiola's midfield.

But despite losing out on both previous targets, it is possible that City will now not move to sign another midfielder this summer.

The Blues generally identify their summer transfer targets many months in advance, and work on agreeing terms with the player and selling club over a long period of time.

With less than a month before the Premier League transfer window closes, it is possible that the Blues will not have enough time to identify a high-quality option and negotiate what they deem a good deal with his club.

Jorginho has followed Maurizio Sarri from Napoli to Chelsea and in doing so becomes our first signing of the summer.

He has signed a five-year contract and will wear the no.5 shirt.

Chelsea join Jorginho race

Meanwhile, Chelsea have joined Manchester City in the battle to sign Italy midfielder Jorginho.

City manager Pep Guardiola identified Jorginho as his replacement for Yaya Toure, who left the club at the end of last season.

The 26-year-old indicated a willingness to join the Premier League champions, leaving City confident of completing a deal for about £50m.

However, De Laurentiis said he had concluded negotiations with City two weeks ago but that Jorginho had subsequently told him his preference was a move to London.

"If the player would rather live in London than Manchester, I can understand that," said De Laurentiis.

"I'll have to apologise to Manchester City", he added.

"If Chelsea are paying him even more, I can understand that too. Jorginho and Sarri together again? Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri."

Jorginho signed for Napoli in 2014 and made 36 appearances for the Serie A side last season, scoring against City in the Champions League in November.
