Japan international Yoshinori Muto is on his way to the UK - but Newcastle United are yet to confirm if he is heading for Tyneside.

The striker spoke to reporters at Haneda airport with sources in Germany suggesting the Magpies had submitted an offer for the player.


United have stayed silent in the past 24 hours on talk of Muto arriving at St James’ Park but the striker said: “I can’t say yet but I should be able to deliver good news soon.

“I believe I’ll grow as a player if I put myself in a competitive environment.

“My goal is to net 10 goals, a number I haven’t reached during a season (overseas).”

Japanese international forward Yoshinori Mutō has completed his move to Newcastle United after being granted a Governing Body Endorsement (work permit).

Mutō has signed an initial four-year contract at St. James’ Park after leaving Bundesliga side Mainz 05 – for whom he appeared against the Magpies in last summer’s friendly in Germany.

He becomes the fifth player to link up with United ahead of the new Premier League campaign, following the permanent arrivals of Martin Dúbrvaka, Ki Sung-yueng and Fabian Schär, and the loan capture of Kenedy.
