Toni Kroos signs new Real Madrid contract to 2023Last Updated: 20/05/19 3:12pm
Toni Kroos has signed a contract extension with Real Madrid until 2023.
The Germany international had been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer, with reports in Spain suggesting he would be allowed to leave to make way for Manchester United's Paul Pogba.
However, it appears the 29-year-old will not be culled by head coach Zinedine Zidane as the Frenchman looks to rebuild Real after they finished the season third in La Liga, 19 points adrift of Barcelona - the biggest recorded gap between the two.
On signing a contract extension, Kroos said: "We're motivated for next season. I'm happy to stay at Madrid four more years.
"I spoke to (coach Zinedine) Zidane and I know what his idea is. I will be important (in the team)."
Kroos joined Real from Bayern Munich in 2014 and has won 11 trophies during his five years at the club.
Reflecting on lifting one La Liga title and three Champions League trophies during that time, Kroos added: "We're humans and that's normal after winning three Champions Leagues.
"What's not normal is to win three in a row, it seemed impossible and we did it.
"No player reached their top level like in previous years."
Over the past season, Kroos made 43 appearances for Real, scoring once.
The central midfielder was an unused substitute for Real as they lost their final game of the season 2-1 to Real Betis at the Bernabeu on Sunday, alongside Gareth Bale.
Unlike Kroos, Bale's future appears uncertain with Zidane unwilling to incorporate the Welshman into his team.
