Bayern Munich have made Leroy Sané their No 1 transfer target this summer and are preparing a bid of around £70m for the 23-year-old Germany international.

The winger, who has been in and out of the City starting line-up this season, is believed to be keen on a move back to Germany, having arrived in England from Schalke in 2016.

Bayern, who won the Bundesliga for a seventh successive time last weekend, will lose two long-serving wide players in Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry this summer and are looking to rejuvenate an ageing squad.

The German champions have already spent almost £100m on French defenders Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard, while teenage Canadian winger Alphonso Davies has made only brief substitute appearances since joining in January.

The Sane situation remains the same. City want him to stay and will try to get him to sign a new deal - we now know the talks will be soon. There is some hope he’ll sign, but negotiations have been very difficult the whole time. If he doesn’t sign, he’ll go. In my view it’s 50/50

Bayern Munich coach Kovac on Sané: "I am confident that we can get him"

It's no secret that Bayern Munich has made the signing of Manchester City's winger Leroy Sané a top priority of their summer transfer window.

The Bavarian club's coach Niko Kovac discussed the matter with ZDF: "Our board is very engaged in this situation. I am confident, I think we can get him", the Croatian coach said.

Manchester City put £137million price tag on Leroy Sane amid Bayern Munich interest

Manchester City have put a price tag of at least £137 million on Leroy Sane amid continuing interest from Bayern Munich.

Reports in Germany have claimed Bayern are preparing a bid of around ?80m (£73m) for Sane but that is almost half City’s valuation of the Germany winger.

Senior sources at the Etihad Stadium say the clubhave yet to receive a formal bid from Bayern for Sane or been given any indication by the 23-year-old that he wants to leave.

City are still hopeful Sane will sign an extension to his contract, which expires in June 2021, and they are likely to give short shrift to any bid that falls well below their minimum ?150m.

City’s stance is understandable given the £107m fee Atletico Madrid paid for Joao Felix this summer, despite the 19-year-old having made just 43 senior appearances for Benfica.

City wrote to Bayern to register their dismay at what they perceive to be a concerted media campaign to unsettle Sane after taking exception to remarks from the German club’s coach, Niko Kovac, that he was “confident” a deal was close.

Kovac was rebuked by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the Bayern chairman, and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and has since contacted City manager Pep Guardiola to apologise about his comments.

If Sane was to leave City - and there are no indications Bayern could or would be willing to go anywhere near the player’s valuation - it is understood there would be no plans to replace the winger before the close of the Premier League transfer window next Thursday.
