Bayern Munich sign Ivan Perisic on loan from Inter Milan
Bayern Munich have signed former Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg winger Ivan Perisic on a season-long loan deal from Italian Serie A club Inter Milan.
The Croatia winger, who lifted the Bundesliga title with Dortmund in 2012 and also won two DFB Cups during his first spell in Germany, reinforces Bayern's attacking options just days before the start of the new Bundesliga campaign.
"I'm very happy to be back in Germany," said Perisic, who signed his contract at Bayern's Säbener Straße headquarters on Monday after successfully completing a medical. "Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in Europe. We want to fight not only in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup, but also the UEFA Champions League."
Now 30, Perisic spent 18 months with Dortmund and two-and-a-half seasons with Wolfsburg before trading Germany for Italy in summer 2015. Last year, he helped Croatia finish as runners-up at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, scoring in the semi-final win over England and again in the final defeat to France. He also worked under Bayern coach Niko Kovac when the latter was in charge of Croatia between 2013 to 2015.
"With his many years of experience at a top international level, Ivan will help us immediately," enthused Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. "He is technically strong and very flexible in attack. I'm sure Ivan will settle in quickly, because he already knows the Bundesliga and our coach Niko Kovac well."
Perisic made a total of 112 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 27 goals, between 2011 and 2015, when he moved to Milan. He has since played 163 times in Serie A and scored on a further 40 occasions.
He provides Bayern coach Kovac with a further option to Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Alphonso Davies on either wing, while he can also play just behind the forwards or, as he has done in pre-season for Inter, as a striker.
Perisic, whose loan deal includes an option to buy, is Bayern's fourth summer signing after Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard and Fiete Arp.
