Burnley believe Mislav Orsic is determined to join from Dinamo Zagreb before this month’s transfer deadline, while the Premier League club have also made a bid for Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst.
It is understood that Orsic has said his goodbyes to coaches and players at Zagreb and wants to move to the Premier League.
A fee has not yet been agreed for the player, however, with negotiations still in progress.
Orsic, a 29-year-old attacking midfielder, plays for Dinamo Zagreb. He is a Croatian international, best known for scoring a hattrick against Tottenham in last season’s Europa League.
Burnley entered the month looking to sign a central midfielder and a wide midfielder. With Orsic, they have a player who can operate in both positions, as well as up front.
Burnley are meanwhile in talks for 29-year-old Weghorst and are believed to be negotiating personal terms.
Dutch international Weghorst plays in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg, where he has scored 59 goals in 118 appearances.
It is understood that Weghorst is interested in the prospect of moving to the Premier League and being a team's no.1 striker.
He appeared in the Netherlands’ squad for last summer’s European Championships, scoring against Ukraine in the group stages.
The club are searching for a striker to replace Chris Wood, who signed for Newcastle for £25 million earlier in the window.
