Warriors Unlikely To Use All Four Draft Picks

Bob Myers indicated he's unlikely to draft four players one year after the Warriors selected three.

"You have to surround youth with veterans, or else you're setting a bad precedent," Myers said. "A lot of young players crave discipline and mentorship, and we've got to find experienced players who can provide that for our youth."

Golden State’s first pick will be seventh. They also have the 30th, 35th, and 52nd picks.

Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob is encouraged about the direction of his team.

"Just think about it. At the (2011) trade deadline, we had no (2012) draft picks, a small backcourt, David Lee and nothing else," Lacob said. "Now, we have four picks, a bigger backcourt and Andrew Bogut to play alongside Lee. I think we've made huge, positive changes to this roster."

Knicks, Heat Atop Of Ray Allen’s List

Ray Allen scored 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting in Miami’s clinching Game 7 victory in the Eastern Conference Finals. Allen finished his ninth postseason with averages of 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 39.1% shooting from the field. With an average age of 29.3 years (28th oldest), the prevailing question around the league is how Boston will proceed with an aging core that netted them one NBA championship and numerous Conference Finals appearances.
Allen, at least, seems to have aspirations to continue his basketball career according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. The two teams atop of his list? The New York Knicks and the Miami Heat.
Judging by his career-high 45.3% shooting from behind the arc, Allen can definitely help a team from the perimeter. Miami converted on 35.9% of their 1030 3-point attempts, finishing ninth in the league. New York made 33.6% of their attempts, good for 21st.
The acquisition of Allen seems good in theory but neither New York or Miami has enough financial flexibility to haul a player of Allen’s caliber.

Starting center Spencer Hawes is an unrestricted free agent. He made more than $4 million last season. A league source said that both players are wanted by teams throughout the league and that both would probably garner salaries averaging about $7 million a year.

An emerging player on the Celtics' radar could be San Antonio restricted free agent Danny Green, who had a solid playoff stretch with the Spurs and is one of the league's most improved players. Green started most of the postseason games for San Antonio, and because he is a second-round pick under the Arenas rule, the Spurs can match any offer to him. The Celtics will be seeking an athletic swingman who can play defense and has long-range shooting skills.

With Portland's Jamal Crawford telling the Globe in February that he will exercise his opt-out clause and become a free agent - making him one of the more desirable shooting guards on the market - the Blazers will have to figure out what to do with Shawne Williams. Williams was traded to Portland in February and will accept his player option although he never played a game for the Blazers because of a foot injury. Magic hire OKC's Rob Hennigan as new GM

The Orlando Magic have reached an agreement to hire Oklahoma City Thunder executive Rob Hennigan as the franchise’s general manager.

After narrowing the list to three finalists, the Magic extended an offer to Hennigan on Wednesday, sources said.

Former New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower and San Antonio assistant GM Dennis Lindsey were the other two finalists for the job.

Hennigan, 30, will become the youngest GM in the NBA.

Hennigan flew to Grand Rapids, Mich., for a second time in a week in recent days to meet with members of the DeVos family, who own the Magic. Hennigan made a rapid rise through the San Antonio Spurs and Thunder organizations. He is currently the Thunder's assistant GM for player personnel. Orlando president Alex Martins wants to mimic the Thunder organization’s excellent track record of drafting, player development and creating a winning culture.

Hennigan will immediately be confronted with making a decision on All-Star center Dwight Howard’s future. Howard is signed through the 2012-13 season, but another fallout with management has left him wanting a trade soon. Howard will push for a trade to the Brooklyn Nets before the June 28 NBA draft to clear the way for Nets free agent Deron Williams to re-sign with the Nets and partner in the new Brooklyn arena next season.

Hennigan will focus on Howard's future and the draft as his first priorities, and won't fully engage a coaching search to replace Stan Van Gundy until after the draft, sources told Yahoo! Sports.
