Liverpool must break their transfer record to sign Naby Keita
Fee of around £50million will be needed to persuade reluctant Leipzig to sell

Liverpool will have to break their transfer record if they want to sign Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the Guinea international, who enjoyed an outstanding season in the Bundesliga.

Keita is one of Klopp's top targets as he looks to bolster his midfield options, but Leipzig are reluctant to sell and it would take an offer of around £50million to seriously test that resolve.

Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff said: “We have decided that we will not sell any player from our starting line-up.

“Ralf Rangnick (sporting director) told this to our team at the end of the season. We will keep our team together and keep on developing.”

Liverpool's current transfer record is the £35million they spent buying Andy Carroll from Newcastle United in 2011.

However, it's highly likely that will be broken this summer with Klopp keen on Keita and Virgil van Dijk, who would both cost in excess of that figure.

Van Dijk would command a fee of around £50million with the Southampton defender also being pursued by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

The first is Naby Keita, a Guinean midfielder, who has performed well this year in the Bundesliga scoring 8 goals in 31 appearances. Klopp’s second objective is Virgil van Dijk, the Southampton defender. RB Leipzig comment on Naby Keita future with Liverpool still keen on signing midfielder
Leipzig planning on Champions League campaign WITH their star players

Liverpool face a battle to sign Naby Keita this summer after RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff reiterated the Bundesliga club's desire to keep the midfielder.

Jurgen Klopp has identified Guinea international Keita as a key signing this summer, with the Reds willing to spend around £50m on the 22-year-old.

However, Leipzig's hand was strengthened this week when their entry into the Champions League was rubber-stamped by UEFA.

Despite finishing second in the Bundesliga, there had been doubts about Leipzig's eligibility to play in Europe's top club competition due to Red Bull's ownership of RB Salzburg.

Leipzig are now planning on a Champions League campaign with star men such as Keita and Swedish winger Emil Forsberg.

Mintzlaff said: “It would be negligent to sell one of our key players now,” he told BILD.

"Emil and Naby are extremely talented and developable players, we are glad that we are able to keep up with their development as a club.

“And now we can prove ourselves in the Champions League in the coming season.”

Liverpool are expected to clinch the signing of Mohamed Salah this week after the player undergoes a medical and puts the finishing touches to a potential club record deal.

Liverpool are willing to pay a club record fee to bring RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita to Anfield.

Leipzig insist the 22-year-old Guinea international will not be sold this summer after they qualified for this season's Champions League.

Keita has been touted as having a £70m price tag, although he has a £48m release clause in his contract that can be unlocked next summer.

Liverpool are yet to bid for Keita, who scored eight league goals last season.

However, manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer and the Anfield hierarchy look certain to test Leipzig's determination to keep someone who has been a central figure in their success with a firm offer.

It also remains to be seen whether Keita himself is attracted by a move to the Premier League.

If Klopp, who returns to the club's Melwood training headquarters to start pre-season preparations next week, and Liverpool do make their interest concrete, the fee involved will have to be well in excess of the £34m (39 euros) recently paid to Roma for Mohamed Salah and the £35m it took to sign Andy Carroll from Newcastle United in January 2011.

Liverpool's owner Fenway Sports Group is determined to back Klopp in the market after he took them back into the Champions League - although they have to get past a play-off first.

Liverpool face a make or break week in their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita .

The Guinea international, who is keen to move to Anfield, is set to have showdown talks with the Bundeliga outfit's management board over his future.

Jurgen Klopp will eagerly await the outcome of those discussions in the hope that Leipzig reluctantly agree to open negotiations over a deal.

Liverpool are prepared to shatter their transfer record in order to secure the services of the highly-rated 22-year-old.

A price tag of £70million has been mooted in Germany but Leipzig have previously informed the Reds that Keita is not for sale at any price.

That stance could change if Keita informs Leipzig that he isn't prepared to stay put for another 12 months and his heart is set on signing for Liverpool.

Any fee for Keita, who is under contract until 2020, is bound to be significantly bigger than the club record £37million the Reds spent on Roma’s Mohamed Salah last month.

Liverpool know there is a 55milion Euros (£48million) release clause in Keita's contract which comes into effect in the summer of 2018.

However, Klopp is desperate to sign him now rather than wait another 12 months.

The dynamic box-to-box midfielder scored eight goals and contributed eight assists in 31 league appearances for Leipzig last season.

Liverpool target Naby Keita has reiterated to Red Bull Leipzig officials in two separate meetings this week that he wants to join the Reds - but crucially Guinean journalists are reporting today that the midfielder "will not spit on Leipzig."

The £70m rated playmaker will not agitate for a move and Leipzig must now decide whether they will keep a player who wants to move, or attempt to settle him down.

Several Guinean journalists tweeted on the proposed transfer.

Amadou Makadji, who featured in the Echo on Tuesday, tweeted last night: "At the last meeting that took place on Wednesday, Naby accompanied by its representatives, reiterated his desire to join the Reds. The ball is now in the camp of the German club, which will decide in the coming days if he wants to sell or not."

Liverpool to increase Naby Keita bid as Reds close in on Andy Robertson

Liverpool are set to increase their mammoth offer for Naby Keita as they look to wrap up an £8million deal for Hull City left-back Andy Robertson.

The ECHO understands the Reds will test RB Leipzig's resolve once again having had an initial bid of £57million for Keita rejected last week.

The Guinea midfielder is desperate to sign for Liverpool and has urged Leipzig to grant him his dream move to Anfield.

RB Leipzig have once again issued a hands-off warning to Liverpool over midfielder Naby Keita.

Leipzig have already rejected an offer from Liverpool worth more than £57m for Keita, according to Sky in Germany.

LEIPZIG REJECT KEITA BID

RB Leipzig have revealed they have rejected a ?75m (£66m) bid from an unnamed club for Liverpool target Naby Keita.

The Guinea international midfielder has been sought by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp this summer but Leipzig have maintained a strong stance over the 22-year-old, insisting he is not for sale.
"We do not sell players who are still under contract just to make a lot of money," Leipzig owner Dietrich Mateschitz told SportBild.

"Recently we got a ?75m offer for Naby Keita. No way! He still has a contract and he will fulfil it.

"To sell him would not only be a proof of distrust for our fans, but also a wrong sign for our other players, such as Timo Werner, who is also in demand."

Sky Sports News reported this week that Liverpool were expected to make a third bid for the midfielder.
