Jon Flanagan is poised to join up with the Rangers training camp in Spain as he closes in on becoming Steven Gerrard's seventh summer signing.

The 25-year-old right-back was a former team-mate of Gerrard's at Liverpool and is now a free agent after being released by the Anfield club at the end of last season.

Sportsmail reported this morning that Flanagan was on a list of targets for the Ibrox manager as he seeks extra defensive options.

Talks have since progressed, with the player now undergoing a medical before he is expected to join the squad in Andalusia.

Flanagan has had issues off-the-field and was given a 12-month community order after admitting assaulting his girlfriend in January.

Gerrard, however, knows him well from their time together on Merseyside and believes he could be a valuable addition to his revamp.

新年新開始，利物浦以2:1擊敗般尼，外號「利記卡富」的右閘法拿根（Jon Flanagan）卻惹禍上身，被拍到上月在利物浦市中心，襲擊相戀年半的女友Rachael Wall。

英國時間去年12月22日，25歲的法拿根被警方拘捕，法官暗示會以社會服務令代替監禁：「我要確定下不為例。」法根拿的代表律師透露，事發時雙方同時受到酒精影響，而且兩人過往相處時也沒出現過暴力事件。

法拿根上季被借到般尼，今季僅在聯賽盃上陣1場，但早在2010/11年球季便為紅軍上陣，當時年僅18歲，至今累積上陣逾50場，也曾為英格蘭大國腳上陣。
