Stoke and Middlesbrough battle for Newcastle's £15m-rated wing Matt Ritchie
Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie is a £15 million target for Championship heavyweights Middlesbrough and Stoke. Tony Pulis, the Middlesbrough manager, is scrapping with his old club to sign the Scotland international as Newcastle consider letting him leave after two years at the club.
Middlesbrough and Stoke have both held detailed discussions with Newcastle over a potential deal, with £15m understood to be the fee required to sign him. Ritchie, 28, is also on the radar of former club Bournemouth but the two Championship clubs are going head to head in a battle to make what would be a major signing.
The £12m recruit made 35 appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle last season, scoring three goals, and it will require an impressive sales pitch to persuade him to drop down into the Championship.
Pulis has already spent £10m on Aden Flint and Paddy McNair while Gary Rowett is also building his new Stoke squad with the additions of Benik Afobe and Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo.

#NUFC ‘s interest in Andros Townsend not really new. It’s how they will finance the deal. If they can get the fee they want for Ritchie that might change things.

Newcastle & Stoke remain apart on their valuation of Matt Ritchie. Stoke offering £11.5m, NUFC want £15m+. We’re told Crystal Palace want £17m for Andros Townsend, who would replace Ritchie on Tyneside.

Stoke still haven’t agreed a price for Matt Ritchie after latest talks. Situation remains the same for Benitez. Ritchie exit only sanctioned if a quality replacement comes in. #nufc
