Arsenal centre-back Calum Chambers looks set to join Fulham on a year-long loan.

The two clubs have come to an agreement over a loan fee for the 23-year-old, Sky Sports News understands.

If personal terms between Chambers and Fulham can be agreed, the player could undergo a medical later on Monday.

Chambers agreed a new four-year deal with Arsenal last month, committing his long-term future to the club.

He is poised to join new signing Alfie Mawson at Fulham, whose £15m arrival from Swansea was recently confirmed by the club.

Mawson is currently working back to match fitness following injury, and is expected to be ready by September.

Fulham have also brought in high profile signings in Jean Michael Seri, Andre Schurrle and Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer as they prepare for their first season back in the English top flight.

Arsenal look at Domagoj Vida as Calum Chambers set for Fulham medical

Calum Chambers is expected to start Fulham’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace this weekend once his season-long loan move from Arsenal is completed.

The 23-year-old signed a new four-year deal with the Gunners only last month but manager Unai Emery is keen for the defender to leave on a temporary basis to gain first-team experience.

Chambers is likely to go straight into the starting line-up at Craven Cottage with Fulham short of centre-back options given Alfie Mawson’s knee injury will sideline him for their first three matches, while Denis Odoi is suspended for two games having been sent off in the Championship play-off final.

Maxime Le Marchand, a summer acquisition from Nice, played in central defence alongside Tim Ream in their final pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo but he is primarily a left-back.

Chambers started just ten league games for Arsenal last term but Emery considers him a bright prospect, although the Gunners are in the market for another centre-back with Besiktas’ Croatian international Domagoj Vida an option they have explored but Emery must raise funds before he can buy again.

The loan fee for Chambers – thought to be around £1million – will help in that regard and he will undergo a medical on Monday with an announcement expected in the next 24 hours.

Chambers will become Fulham’s seventh summer signing after achieving promotion with Le Marchand, Mawson, Jean Michael Seri, Andre Schurrle, Fabri and Aleksandar Mitrovic all moving to west London to date. They are still expected to bring in a left-back and a backup striker before Thursday’s deadline.

CHAMBERS JOINS FULHAM

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has joined Fulham on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old signed a new four-year deal with the Gunners last month but will spend the 2018-19 campaign with newly-promoted Fulham.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery said: "Calum is a talented defender who has a bright future.

"We all believe this loan at Fulham will be an important part of his development and wish him a successful season."
